In this life, there are no guarantees. There will be good times and bad. Happy times and sad. I don't mean to be reductive, but here I am, still standing.
For those of you who don't know me, allow me to introduce myself - my name is Stephen Snavely. I'm a writer and director in Los Angeles, CA., and over the last ten years, I've become a husband, father, and mental health advocate. For many of you who do know me, you might not have known that last part.
During my time here in LA, I've journeyed through the ups and downs of discovering I have a severe anxiety disorder, working through crippling depression, experiencing chronic panic attacks, and contemplating suicide. (NOTE: If I know you personally and you're reading this, I'm okay). This post is not meant to sound the alarm. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Through LOTS of hard work, therapy, family support, and even medication, I've come to accept that this illness is part of who I am, but understand that it doesn't define me.
As a self-taught filmmaker, my approach has many facets; perhaps most important, my belief that filmmaking, in its purest and most perfect form, comes from the ability to be vulnerable. But vulnerability stretches far beyond filmmaking or what one does for a living. Opening up and sharing with others provides us the freedom to feel safe enough to fail. To feel safe enough to share our truths. And to feel safe enough to say "I'm not alright" and ask for help. It's out of this vulnerability that we form common bonds, shared emotions, and ultimately, help create a more universal and empathetic humanity.
Whether I've known you for years or even if we've never officially met, please consider this an open invitation to reach out to me if you ever need someone to talk to or listen. Pain may insist on being attended to. But don’t let it harden you. And never give up.
Almost two years ago I finished making my first short film. It was an incredibly cathartic experience that wouldn’t have been possible without the help of so many.
Tomorrow night, thanks to the amazing folks at @hollyshorts , it will be screening at the historic TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood! If you haven’t seen it yet, or want to see it again on the big screen, ticket info is available via the link in my bio.

Find yourself a true collaborator that believes in your vision as much as you do. DP @michaelgauthier has been that for me throughout this filmmaking process. His energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to lend his talent to this project based simply on belief in the material was more than I could have ever asked for. Excited to share more of the beautiful images he was able to capture over the coming weeks!
When TYR reached to ask if we could help launch their new shoe line for the 2024 CrossFit Games, we jumped at the chance. The brief was simple. 12 elite athletes. 1 new footwear collection. 24 hours to make it all happen.
Huge thanks to TYR for the opportunity and to our stellar crew for making the impossible, possible.

Made for the Moment
Shot on the Alexa 35 with a unique combination of Mamiya-Sekor 645 lenses, DP Evan Burns (@cinemacgyver ) crafted stunning visuals and helped create a distinctive visual aesthetic, which perfectly captured the essence of the project.
Immensely proud of what we were able to accomplish and can’t wait to share more!
Excited to share a glimpse of a project I wrote and directed for @ON in collaboration with @madeathlete !
Filmed in College Station over two days, we set out with a skeleton crew, four athletes from the Texas A&M track team, and a full buy in from everyone involved. I couldn’t be more proud of how this one turned out and can’t wait to share it with you all. We made magic out there.
Thanks to all that helped make this one happen. 🙏🏽
