Brad and Angelina put Palm Springs style on the map in 2005 with this 60-page fashion shoot by Steven Klein in W magazine. Gio Ponti designed the Arlecchino in 1960. It has been completely restored and I’m riding it today. It looks a lot like a Karmann Ghia. Our trip is from Milan to the Nougat Festival in Cremona. I’m allergic to nuts.
Here’s my favorite photo from my new book INSIDE PALM SPRINGS. The hand — and jewelry — belong to Nelda Linsk, the woman in yellow in Slim Aarons’ most famous photograph, “Poolside Gossip,” shot in 1970 when she owned Neutra’s Kaufmann House in Palm Springs. The slide stamped SLIM AARONS is an outtake from the shoot; Nelda has had an envelope filled with them lying around for 55 years. Next you can see how @donflood got the shot, which wasn’t easy. Finally, the portrait of Nelda in her current home is an outtake from our book. Don could have spent all afternoon shooting Nelda, who has quite a closet. Pub date is next week! Books open minds and connect people.. and this new book by @stephendrucker with the wonderful photographs of @donflood and text by @peterrobbinshaldeman is a great example! Yes, it is a coffee table book but unlike most it is alive and shows the way to what this wonderful community of Palm Springs really is all about. Serious and humorous, lovely and sweet, full of truths and dreams it tells things as they are.
