From the same day, but in focus, outside the church with my mentor Phil Walsh saw potential in me and gave me my first job in the industry in Arks Advertising.
This day 52 years ago I got married to Maria. We had been together longer than that and it was a great day and one to remember. Maria died in 2009 from cancer which was not an easy time for any of us. But the memories were and are of good times. From an 8mm film taken in the day.
While not wanting to post as often as now seems inevitable I couldn’t let the death of Joe Ely go without saying that he was, as many already know, a inspiration with who he was and the music he made. I was fortunate enough to meet him on a number of occasions in Dublin and being asked to introduce him and his fellow Flatlanders in Vicar St. On another occasion he asked to join myself and Ronnie Norton as we were going to see Chip Taylor at the Cobblestones venue. He was good company. This image I took at BB King’s club in New York in 2016. Unfortunately the last time I saw Joe live. He was as entertaining as always. He will be missed but his music and memory will live on.
We have lost one of the great singers in contemporary music and Americana. Raul Malo was a voice you could not forget and led The Mavericks to create some wonderful music that will remain with many. I was lucky enough to work with the band on a number of occasions including working on the two album covers they had for the releases of In Time and Mono. Though I got to know Jerry Dale, Paul and Robert more closely, it was a privilege to work with them all. Raul will be missed by many, not least his family, friends and band mates. The picture above was taken by Jim Herrington for the Mono album. May he rest peacefully now.
Philip. Doing what he loved to do. To create and be creative with his comrades and friends. He continues to inspire as his legacy does. Always with us in spirit.
🌊🏄♂️🏄♀️🌊Surfs up!
Happy Anniversary ‘Hey Kiddo!’.. 4 years old today!
I’m a huge rockabilly & surf guitar fan and this project scratched that inch big time with 12 original instrumental tracks in the style of the late 50s/early 60s pre blues boom guitar music.. The Ventures, Dick Dale, Los Straitjackets & also the new wave of hip young bands.. the surf culture is such an interesting scene with the artwork, fashion & of course rockin music..

💥 8/10 star review for ‘Hey Kiddo!’
“It’s fascinating how Mike is capable of telling a whole story with his guitar… perfect guitar executions.. writing songs without lyrics.. Mike does this with excellence..”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 star review for ‘Hey Kiddo!’
“explosive guitar burst that combines surf twang with punk energy... well structured instrumentals full of stylistic diversity.... musical integrity, melodic vision and an exhilarating windswept playing style to convince you that he is as authentic as the sand in between your toes.”

Some Pre Radiators from Space images to celebrate Philip Chevron’s birthday. Top image taken at at tea break from garage rehearsal with Greta Garbage bassist Dave McAdam (prior to Mark Megaray joining). Second image is Philip and I who both were involved in different capacities for the Midnite label of Eamon Carr and Jackie Hayden.
Yesterday we lost a wonderful, magical man who over the years I had the good fortune to get to know and work with. It was always a pleasure and a privilege. This image was photographed on a day out on Malahide beach and used on one of Pat’s book cover. The handwriting is taken from a note Pat send to me in recent times. He is indeed out there and always in my memories and through his poetry will always be with us. He is where he wants to be now.
