On November 13, “Bhutan: Portrait of a Kingdom” (
@bhutanportrait ), initiated by Her Majesty the Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck (
@queenjetsunpema ), was launched at the Royal Palace in Thimphu.
It was a privilege to celebrate alongside Their Majesties, members of the Royal Family, and dignitaries, sharing the stage with esteemed photographers Gueorgui Pinkhassov (
@pinkhassov ), Michael Yamashita (
@yamashitaphoto ), Chang Chien-Chi (
@chien_chi_chang ), Vincent Munier (
@vincent_munier_photographer ), Melisa Teo
@melisa_teo ), and Karma T. Dorji (

The book also includes exclusive photographs by His Majesty The King of Bhutan, Steve McCurry (
@stevemccurryofficial ), Raghu Rai (
@raghurai.official ), Olivia Arthur (
@oliviarthur ) and French monk Matthieu Ricard, along with texts by Pico Iyer and Kinley Dorji.
The exhibition featured our images printed by
@hpgraphicarts on lightboxes, illuminating the magical setting of the Palace Grounds.
Her Majesty highlighted the significance of the event, coinciding with the 70th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth King, and described the book as a heartfelt offering created with love, capturing the country through both the lens and the heart. Dasho Thinlay Norbu (
@thinlaynorbuu ), who led the project, thanked the participating photographers for helping us see Bhutan with fresh eyes, while celebrating its familiar beauty.
It was a memorable night—truly “the book launch to end all book launches!” to quote
