Ceramic trefoil knot - 3.1
My first ceramic knot, it is bisque fired and I’m still hesitating a bit for a hotter fire. I would love to glaze it to make it shiny, I believe the clay would also turn black, but I’m afraid the piece would collapse at 1200°C. I guess I should just try. At least now I have a nice series of photos…

This last installation was more of a giant painting although the presence of a wall of paper was strong. It was a first time for me at this scale, my first few strokes were pretty shy. But soon I got a feel for it and it became almost a dance. An amazing experience, and a work I’m proud of.

Weeks ago I made my first installation for @minasuspension and @seafood.seafood collaboration party in @planetamanas in Lisbon. The situation was challenging so I decided to come up with something very different and to do a giant painting instead of a paper sculpture. I still covered the whole wall with strips of white paper then painted an almost 4 meters high by 12 meters long wall… for the shapes of course I went geometrical and simplified!

Two months ago I left China after living there for over 12 years. COVID made the end of this massive part of my life quite bitter sweet. I didn’t publish for too long, but freelance was slower in the context and sharing wasn’t what I needed then.
I still did quite a bit of design work and I’ll come back to it soon.
I wanted to share first something I never published about: the teaching part of my life, and above all the studio I created and cared for with @houweiwei
For 10 years we taught art and art history to hundreds of kids. We had workshops all over China, even trips in Europe. Definitely one of the motor of my life there. Teaching wasn’t even an idea of mine before I started to do it, it became a passion!
I’ll always see myself as a designer AND a teacher!

This was my first installation since February. Life night is shut up in Beijing since April, in Shanghai too, in Chengdu from time to time. So many plans got canceled. The 0 COVID politic is making life impossible… It was so good to go back to the worktable. It does bring back inspiration.

I have barely any photos of my installation from yesterday, I guess it is a proof the party went on well! My inspiration was a spark, a star. It was a really organic design I did on the spot from those long (very long) needles of paper. Very dynamic!

So happy I got to do a GIANT paper sculpture in Beijing this time. Thanks to McLab for having me, I’m very happy with that one! I worked with white AND black paper this time for the stripes and it worked very well defining the face. Just so many more pieces I had to put together…
