The day is waiting for you
Opens 5pm, Thursday 10 July — Foyer
Steph Arrowsmith paints like someone trying to hold light in their hands. Working pigment into silk, cotton, and canvas, she conjures scenes that hover between childhood memory and dream—seals mid-performance, a red star in freefall, a sad sun sinking into carpet.
In this new series of five works, too-pure forms drift through murky enclosures dressed up as paradise. The result is a world that feels tender and imagined, made to soothe a deeper longing: for beauty, for gentleness, for something better than what we’re given.
Steph lives in Tāmaki Makaurau and graduated from Toi Rauwhārangi, Massey University in 2021.
