Utah continues to expand access to high-quality STEM education with the designation of 12 new STEM Schools in 2026. It increases the statewide total to 37 STEM schools and strengthens hands-on, future-focused learning. The STEM School Designation program supports schools in building comprehensive STEM environments that prepare students for college, careers, and lifelong success. A recent STEM blog highlights this work in action — we saw student-centered learning come to life through real-world problem solving, creative collaboration, and meaningful cross-disciplinary connections. The visit showcased what happens when STEM learning is both rigorous and deeply engaging. Meet our STEM Best Practices presenters. Alyson Yeates-Linford is a mentor teacher at Weber State University Charter Academy. Her session models how movement, nature-based inquiry, and pattern exploration can support early mathematics. Participants will leave with practical strategies illustrating how observation, movement, and place-based exploration can build early math and science understanding. Yeates-Lindford will present in Price on June 18 and in Ogden on June 30. Sign up for our conference now to secure your spot ➡️ Link in profile 🔗

The Department of Cultural & Community Engagement is Utah’s catalyst for connection. Through the work of nine divisions, we help strengthen the social and economic fabric of the state, enriching quality of life and supporting a more unified future. This is Utah’s culture in motion through service, art, historic preservation, museums, and education. At its core, this work is about prosperity, opportunity, understanding, and shared responsibility for this place we call home. It’s how communities become stronger over time and how people find their place within something larger than themselves. The Utah Department of Cultural & Community Engagement listens, connects, inspires, and empowers Utahns to see themselves in the past, present, and future of our state. Through ongoing work across the state, we create pathways for learning, leadership, celebration, and contribution, because engaged communities are the foundation of a thriving Utah.
