Earth Day is now over, but we’re still celebrating a successful Remake Learning Days event at Ivanhoe Neighborhood Council! Over 200 residents, volunteers, and partners came together for a day focused on environmental stewardship, sustainability education, and community connection. The morning began with a neighborhood clean-up and gardening activities, followed by a family-friendly festival featuring STEM and environmental learning, live demonstrations, face painting, and a petting zoo. The community enjoyed free resources and activities from partners including Lincoln University, KCPL Bookmobile, NRCS Rainwater Simulators, Anita B. Gorman, Lakeside Nature Sanctuary, and many more. The youth LOVED it 🥰. The Prospect KC served up a free taco bar and Compost Collective provided composting services throughout the event. A big thank you to the Remake Learning Days initiative, and our sponsors at Community Capital Fund, KC STEM Alliance, Evergy, NTDF, and 4imprint for helping make this day possible. We can't wait to do it again next year! #RemakeLearningDays #stemeducation #STEM #earthday #environmentaleducation

Monday night, our community came together at @jedunnconstruction for a screening and discussion of the award-winning documentary, Counted Out. Numeracy is not just a school issue. It’s a workforce issue. An economic issue. A civic issue. A confidence issue. When people struggle with math, it impacts far more than test scores. It shapes access to careers, financial stability, healthcare decisions, technology, and opportunity itself. This room believes every learner deserves the chance to build confidence in problem-solving, critical thinking, and quantitative reasoning and that it takes all of us working together. Educators. Families. Industry. Community organizations. Students. Policymakers. We’re proud to be part of a growing regional movement focused on strengthening numeracy across Kansas City and creating systems that help more people see themselves as capable, curious, and empowered learners. A huge thank you to JE Dunn Construction for hosting, to everyone who joined the conversation, and to the many partners helping move this work forward. The room was filled with thoughtful dialogue, deep care for our community, and a shared belief that we can build something better together. #stem #education #math #numeracy #countedout

The first day of @remakelearningdays in Kansas City was a whirlwind, the best kind. Between the @officialfirstlegoleague Explore Showcase and community partners showing up in a big way to engage kids around STEM learning, @crowncenter was full of curiosity, creativity, and energy all day long. Young learners explored everything from bees to architecture to robots. And of course, LEGOs. Lots of LEGOs. Exactly what the work is all about, even though it looks like play. A huge thank you to our hosts at Crown Center, along with @alsipacres Honey Farm, @meettheworkerbeez , @thepinions , @stemkc Student Leadership Team (we see you, @gryphonbots !), and @re.use.full for creating hands-on experiences for kids and families throughout the day. Thank you as well to the @debrucefoundation , and to every student, family, educator, volunteer, and community member who came together to learn, explore, and have fun with us. We’re just getting started. Remake Learning Days continues through May 17 with FREE events happening all across the Kansas City region. Why is it called Remake Learning Days? Because when community shows up together, we don’t just support learning - we reshape how it’s experienced. This weekend made that real and we’d like to give a huge thank you and round of applause to @johnsoncountycommunitycollege for hosting such an energizing preview into what Remake Learning Days can be. JCCC continues to lead as a true advocate for STEM in our region, not just by opening their doors, but by helping reimagine what STEM can look and feel like for young learners. Kids weren’t just “learning about STEM” on Saturday. They were moving, building, experimenting, and connecting ideas across music, nature, and the world around them. They were asking questions, trying things, figuring it out in real time. When that happens, we see kindle a spark kindled. Families lean in. Community members get curious. The energy spreads. What could feel scary becomes welcoming, shared, and really fun. Kids walk away with confidence, curiosity, and the understanding that learning is for them. When we start early, and when learning is rooted in wonder and discovery, we’re not just teaching concepts. We’re showing kids what’s possible and that they belong. This is what it looks like when we comes together and show young people the way. This is Remake Learning Days. And the momentum doesn’t stop here. From May 9th through the 17th, we get to remake learning together! Remake Learning Days is bringing hands-on STEM experiences to neighborhoods all across our region. That means more chances to explore, build, ask questions, and discover what’s possible. Keep the curiosity going. Keep the energy alive. Math literacy isn’t just about school. It’s about who can make informed decisions about money, healthcare, careers. It's also about who gets left out and why. Right now, only about 1 in 3 U.S. adults are considered numerate, meaning the majority of people are navigating critical life decisions without the confidence or skills to work with numbers. That has real consequences for individuals, for our workforce, and for our communities. That’s why we’re bringing the award-winning documentary Counted Out to Kansas City with our partners, @jedunnconstruction . Join us for a free screening on May 11th, followed by a happy hour and conversation with educators, families, industry partners, and community leaders who are actively working to move the needle on math literacy with STEM Connect-KC. This event is about understanding the challenge ahead of us, connecting with people doing the work, and figuring out where you fit in. Seats have been going fast, but we’ve opened up a few more. Once they're gone, they're gone so be sure to secure your FREE ticket soon! 🔗 in bio. #stem #Education #mathematics #literacy

The energy was incredible. Yesterday, 370+ students showed up to the @nationalwwimuseum to pitch their capstone projects at the PLTW High School Senior Showcase. And they delivered. Engineering, biomedical, and PSA projects that were thoughtful, creative, and genuinely impressive. They did the work. And it showed. The future isn’t coming, it’s already here. Can you feel it? #stem #education #biomed #engineering

The Greater Kansas City Regional closed out the regular FIRST Robotics Competition season, and it brought the full range of what this program is all about - big wins, tough losses, and teams pushing through to the very end. At this point in the season, there’s no coasting. Every match reflects months of work, fast decisions, and real pressure. Some things come together at exactly the right time, others don’t, and both outcomes are part of what these students learn to navigate. Huge congratulations to the teams who competed and to this year’s award winners: Regional Winners: @broncobots1987 , @teamscream4522 , @sapulpachieftainrobotics Regional Finalists: 4766 Team SCREAM Jr., 2040 DERT - Dunlap Eagles Robotics Team, 5968 @littleapplecyborgs FIRST Impact Award: @team1710 The Ravonics Revolution Engineering Inspiration Award: 5968 Little Apple Cyborgs Rising All-Star Award: 2410 Blue Valley CAPS @metalmustangrobotics Gracious Professionalism Award: 1802 Team Stealth Team Spirit Award: 1997 STAGROBOTICS Team Sustainability Award: @4329roboteers Lutheran Roboteers Excellence in Engineering Award: @frcteam1939 THE KUHNIGHTS Creativity Award: 4213 MetalCow Robotics Industrial Design Award: 4522 Team SCREAM Innovation in Control Award: @blazerobotics Blaze Robotics Quality Award: @pantherrobotics1108 Autonomous Award: 1987 Broncobots Imagery Award: 9428 The Cashew Chickens @sgf.robotics Judges’ Award: 11195 VOLT Robotics FIRST Leadership Award Finalists: Brian G - 1108 Panther Robotics Dhruv M - 2410 Blue Valley CAPS Metal Mustangs Woodie Flowers Finalist Award: Kenneth Wilson - 3067 Robovikes Volunteer of the Year: Victoria Cook A strong close to the season and a clear reminder of what these students are capable of when given the space to build, compete, and lead. Join us tomorrow, 4/28, for one of the most inspiring events of the year. The 2026 PLTW High School Senior Showcase celebrates graduating @pltworg students as they present their senior capstone projects from Engineering Design & Development and Biomedical Innovation. This is where learning turns into action. Students spend months identifying real-world problems, researching, designing, testing, and refining solutions - then step into a professional setting to present their work to the community. It’s hands-on, applied, and deeply rooted in the skills that matter: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. You’ll see everything from engineering prototypes to biomedical innovations, projects that reflect not just what students know, but what they can do. These students aren’t just preparing for the future, they’re actively building it. Friends, family, educators, industry partners, and community members are all welcome to attend and support the next generation of innovators. Want to learn more? If math is something you just “got through” in school, Counted Out might shift your perspective. Numeracy isn’t about passing a test. It’s about who understands the systems shaping money, healthcare, and opportunity - and who doesn’t. Watch the trailer, then register to join us May 11 with JE Dunn, STEM Connect-KC, and partners across the ecosystem (link in bio). Thanks to our hosts, we’ll screen the film in the beautiful, world-class @jedunnconstruction headquarters and then stick around for a real conversation. Preparing future leaders for the real world doesn’t just take a village. It takes a nation of engaged, informed people willing to do the work to move STEM education forward. We hope you’ll be one of them on the 11th. Seats are limited for this free event so RSVP soon! #stem #math #literacy #numeracy #education #workforce

We use math to make decisions every day and yet, most adults in the U.S. struggle with basic numeracy. That shows up everywhere, from paychecks to healthcare, and determines who gets access to opportunities. Two in three adults can’t pass a basic numeracy test, and whether we realize it or not, that shapes social and economic outcomes. Join STEM Connect-KC and @jedunnconstruction for a happy hour and screening of Counted Out, the award-winning documentary that explores how math influences access, opportunity, and who gets a voice in our society. Math literacy isn’t just a school issue - it’s something that touches all of us. Real change takes parents, civic leaderes, educators, and workforce and industry partners working together. If you're reading this, your voice is needed! Heavy hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided. This event is FREE but seats are limited so RSVP ASAP. We’d love to have you join us! 🔗 in bio to learn more and RSVP! #stem #math #literacy #education #kansascity #event
