Thank you to all of the amazing speakers and students who got the chance to display their research projects! ✨
Congratulations to University of Galway second-year students Oliwia Senkowska and Malachy Kinsella, accompanied by their mentor Dr Stanislas Von Euw (School of Biological and Chemical Sciences), who won first place at the Eurachem Analytical Measurement Competition (EAMC) 2026, held at Atlantic Technological University on 17 April.
The EAMC is a national competition involving 25 teams from universities and technological universities across Ireland. It focuses on practical analytical chemistry challenges designed to test accuracy, precision, and problem-solving skills.
This was the first time University of Galway participated in the competition, making the achievement an especially proud milestone!
The University of Galway College of Science and Engineering is delighted to welcome Mihailo Mirkovic, who joins the University as a recipient of a prestigious Wellcome Trust Career Development Award.
Dr Mirkovic will establish a new research group within the Centre for Chromosome Biology, contributing to cutting-edge work that explores how cells divide and accurately replicate DNA. His research will investigate how errors in these processes can lead to chromosome instability, with important implications for understanding cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
This award is one of the most competitive and respected in global research, and its continued presence at University of Galway reflects the strength and ambition of our scientific community.
We are excited to support Dr Mirkovic as he develops his research programme and contributes to advancing knowledge in this vital area of human health.
