🎥☕ A beloved Brooklyn diner ended its time serving pancakes and coffee to hungry New Yorkers, but found new life at Steiner Studios (@steinerstudiosbk ), continuing its legacy in the city as a standing set for the film and television industry. "A broker called me, who I'm friendly with, a real estate broker, and he said that the seller of the diner would really like to have it saved, would I have an interest in bringing it to the studio, which I thought was a great idea" chairman of Steiner Studios Doug Steiner said. "And I thought it would be cheap and easy to do, and it would be helpful for people shooting on our lot." The process—which involved approval from the NYPD, Department of Transportation and Department of Buildings—turned out to be anything but simple. When asked how the process was to get the landmark Wythe Diner from its Williamsburg home across the neighborhood, Steiner told 1010 WINS "a nightmare." "Really I had no idea, I thought it would be very fast and easy to do the move, and I had no idea what was involved, it's been incredibly complicated, it's sort of like moving the Rockefeller Christmas tree through the streets of New York," he continued. Regardless of the difficult move that involved a crane, construction crew and police escort, Steiner and owner of the diner Sandy Stillman are excited about the future of the esteemed, old school restaurant. "I think it's awesome to keep it preserved," Stillman, who cared for the diner for decades, said. "And I cannot describe how meaningful it is to me and important to me." The diner has appeared in films like "The Departed," "Men in Black III" and a variety of photo shoots and commercials. Steiner said that he hopes "someone will write a long series for many years based on the diner so we have lots of use of it." 🎤 @mdiamond152 reports 📹 Marla Diamond, Courtesy of Steiner Studios 🔊 Tune into 1010 WINS at 92.3 FM for more local news #newyorkcity #nyc #nyclocalnews #nycnews #localnews #news #brooklyn #williamsburg #diner #filmandtv #filmindustry #entertainment

We loved having the #BlackRabbit team at our soundstages! While the exterior is a real, centuries-old wood-frame building near the South Street Seaport (formerly the Bridge Café), the entire three-story interior was custom-built on our stage at Steiner Studios in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Big thanks for the shoutout, @JasonBateman on @latenightseth ! And please check out the @nytimes article in our bio!

Instead of letting this iconic diner in Williamsburg get torn down, we’re rescuing it and bringing it to the Studios. We see it as a standing set, as opposed to a set that’s built for a production and torn down. Here’s the story in the NY Times.
