#yourshotphotographer The story behind this photo is really important. So I started off that night by checking what time moonrise would be, and what general area it would be rising. If you’ve ever shot a sun/moon set or rise, you know that the time it takes to go either over the horizon, or the times it takes to rise just over it, is very short. You have about 8 minutes maybe before you either lose it below, or before it rises to high, and it looks less dramatic. So when it got to about 5 mins before the moonrise time, I was really driving around trying to sneak a peak at where the rise would be, in order to get a clear shot as I had recently gotten a new telephoto l wanted to see what I could get of a full moon at 300mm. When I turned onto the avenue, I saw the top quarter of the moon breaking over the horizon in almost a perfect line with a straight stretch of the avenue. I instantly imagined capturing that rising moon over the avenue, but I knew I had little time. I pulled over really quickly in a part of the road without a street light (I didn’t want it to mess with my exposure). Pretty quickly I knew I would have take the shot from the middle of the road, so I kept an eye on the traffic light, so when it turned red I could run into the middle of the road and at least get off a burst of shots before any cars would be coming my way. I knew also I would need to try and bracket some photos, to make sure I had enough information to work with as the light was both really low, and all the light sources would want to blow out compared to the rest of the street. I also would have to dial in both sets of settings before the moon moved too much, but while the road was also clear, all in about 8 minutes. That was the skill part of it, then there was the luck part. I had no idea the moon would line up with the road like that, I only turned onto the avenue to make sure I was facing the right way for the rise. Then, on one of my bursts, a guy riding a bicycle just happened to decide to ride down the middle of the road, and I was able to catch him as he passed in front of some headlights. Cont...
