Today I’m sharing a short excerpt from a piece I composed and that was performed last summer at Teatro degli Scalpellini.
The piece is called The Zone and is inspired by images from Tarkovsky’s film Stalker.
It’s written for a small chamber ensemble: soprano clarinet, two bass clarinets, and cello.
The composition is built on the octatonic scale, an eight-note sequence alternating whole and half steps, which opens up a wide range of colorful harmonic possibilities

Experimenting with polytonality in the style of Bernard Herrmann.
In this rescoring of a scene from Munich by Steven Spielberg, I composed a chorale for string orchestra starting from the superposition of two chords: Cm and E. All the harmonic and melodic material comes from the six notes created by overlapping these two chords

This is the intro to a piece composed over the scenes from Sergei Eisenstein’s 1931 film “Mexican Footage – Dance of the Heads & Day of the Dead.”
The track is inspired by the album Goats and Distortions 5 by Berlin-based project Dictaphone.
The clarinet (@andrea_agrati ) moves like a character over the electronic soundscape, exploring the world evoked by the images
Here’s a little snippet from an electroacoustic experiment I’ve been working on, inspired by Evgueni Galperine’s album Theory of Becoming. It mixes orchestral sounds, like brass and woodwinds, twisted and processed over an electronic soundscape. Tunisian drums keep a steady and hypnotic groove throughout
