On 6 March, colleagues from our Bogotá team came together to support their local community volunteering at @bancodealimentosbgt . On behalf of Steer, they helped pack more than 5 tonnes of food for people in need, preparing a total of 1,041 food parcels. This is a significant contribution that will have a tangible impact for many families. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Carolina Toro Pérez for leading the initiative, and to everyone who gave their time and energy to make it happen. Your efforts are a strong reminder of the difference we can make when we come together beyond our day-to-day work.

February marks LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to recognise the individuals and movements that have shaped a more inclusive society, while reflecting on the progress still to be made. This year’s theme, Science and Innovation, celebrates the profound contributions LGBTQ+ people have made to discovery, technological advancement, and new ways of thinking. At Steer, we know that innovation thrives where diverse perspectives are welcomed and empowered, and naturally we want to focus on pioneers who’ve shaped the world of transport, movement and planning. Charles Beyer: Beyer was a pioneering German-born British locomotive engineer and industrialist, who co-founded Beyer, Peacock & Company in Manchester. His work improved steam locomotive efficiency and reliability during the railway boom, enabling global expansion. He funded scientific research, endowing engineering and biology chairs at the University of Manchester there for generations. Phyllis Lyon: Lyon was a trailblazing activist whose advocacy helped shape more inclusive urban communities. As co-founder of the Daughters of Bilitis and a member of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, she championed fair housing, equitable access to services, and civic visibility, principles that continue to inform equity-led planning and community-centred city policy. Edward Carpenter: Carpenter was a 19th-century social reformer whose ideas anticipated modern urban planning. Advocating walkable communities, access to green space, and the social value of cycling, he challenged industrial city models and promoted healthier, more connected places. His thinking helped influence early planning movements and continues to resonate in sustainable, people-centred design. Throughout the month, we encourage our colleagues to take time to learn, reflect, and engage with the stories that continue to shape the future of science, infrastructure, and society. Happy LGBTQ+ History Month.

We’re pleased to see a new partnership take shape within the Steer Group with the acquisition of Evolution Infrastructure. Since welcoming Amberside Advisors to the Steer Group in 2022, we’ve valued the depth of expertise and perspective they bring to our work across infrastructure, energy, and the energy transition. Bringing Amberside Advisors and Evolution Infrastructure together within Steer Group builds on that foundation, combining complementary strengths, bolstering services while maintaining the diligence and rigour both organisations are known for. This alliance creates further opportunities for collaboration, shared learning, bigger mandates, and international reach, and strengthens and accelerates the group’s collective capability in supporting clients across complex and evolving markets.

🌿 Connecting with nature in Bogotá As part of our Local Environmental Action Plans (LEAPs), colleagues from our Bogotá office took part in a guided walk through the Córdoba Wetland, a chance to reconnect with nature and reflect on the vital role wetlands play in urban ecosystems. Wetlands help regulate water, improve air quality, and provide habitats for countless species. During the visit, the team spotted yellow- and red-flanked tinguas and explored the native flora that enriches local biodiversity. Experiences like this remind us why protecting and preserving these ecosystems matters and how local actions can make a global difference. 🌎 #sustainability #biodiversity #environment #wearesteer #bogotá

🌍 Last week, our teams from Steer and Amberside Advisors joined the Women in STEM Graduate Careers Event in London. It was great to meet so many talented women curious about shaping the future of transport, infrastructure, and energy. From conversations on sustainability to the impact of data and design, the enthusiasm and ideas we heard were inspiring. We’re excited to see where these future innovators take their careers next. ✨

Moving for the planet 🌍🏃‍♂️ Last month, teams from across Steer, Steer ED, Fourth Economy and Amberside came together for the Move for the Planet Challenge - part of our wider sustainability and wellbeing month. The challenge saw colleagues from across Latin America, Europe, and North America take part in a two-week initiative where we chose healthier, more sustainable ways of getting around and living every day. Together we walked, cycled, carpooled, meditated, and explored new ways to make small choices with a big impact. We want to say a big thank you for all the teamwork, creativity and energy our colleagues brought to this challenge. Let’s keep the momentum going, one step, one ride, one choice at a time.

Ancoats Mobility Hub represents infrastructure for the future and the culmination of years of hard work by Manchester City Council, supported by Steer. This week we visited the hub to observe our consultants’ efforts in practice. The hub provides over 400 car parking spaces, secure storage for 150 bicycles, electric car club vehicles, electric vehicle charging and amenities including a parcel delivery hub and a café. Cycle hire is also available nearby. This facility, situated in a rapidly developing area adjacent to Manchester city centre, will support a projected 1,500 homes and contribute to reducing vehicle ownership in the area enabling people to live without the need to own a car. The Mobility Hub’s green design features landscaping and a ‘green wall’ contribute to local character. Developments like this that encourage lower levels of car ownership, facilitating active travel and perform placemaking functions are great examples of the future of sustainable, well-planned transit-orientated development. #Ancoats #MobilityHub #Manchester #WeAreSteer

At Steer, we greatly value the areas and communities local to our offices, and we’re serious about making a positive difference in the places our colleagues call home. Every month, our incredible Manchester team comes together to support @mustardtreemcr , a local charity dedicated to combating poverty and preventing homelessness across the city. Through regular donations of food supplies, they’re helping to provide vital support to those who need it most. We’re proud of their commitment and the impact they’re making right on our doorstep. #Manchester #Community #MustardTree #WeAreSteer

Inspiring the next generation: Steer Work Experience Week 2025 Last week, we welcomed 23 students from schools in some of London and Manchester’s most underserved communities for a week of hands-on learning, insight, and inspiration. Over five days, students participated in 16 interactive sessions that covered a range of topics, including project management, sustainability, data, infrastructure, and major events. The goal? To give students real exposure to the world of transport and consulting and help them discover careers they may not have considered before. They left with new skills, fresh confidence, and a better understanding of what their futures could hold. “This week was AMAZING. I learnt so many new things and met new people.” “The thing I’m most proud of is getting good feedback on our presentation from a Steer expert. I’ll never forget that.” Huge thanks to the many Steer colleagues who made this possible, delivering sessions, sharing stories, handling logistics and tech, and helping create an experience that students (and staff!) won’t forget. We talk a lot about creating space for new voices in our industry. Last week, we did just that. #workexperience #nextgeneration #socialimpact #transportcareers #wearesteer

Last Thursday several of our London colleagues took part in The Bankside Games 2025, a fantastic afternoon in the sunshine playing football, netball and beach volleyball with 17 other teams, together raising £10,000 for children's afterschool activities. A huge congratulations to our netball team, who brought home the win for Steer, and to our football team, who secured an impressive 4th place! Thank you all for representing Steer with such energy, teamwork and sportsmanship. And a big thank you to Bankside for organising a brilliant event, see you next year! #TheBanksideGames #2025 #London #wearesteer
