It’s Constitution Day in Norway 🎉 That means streets bursting with celebration, parades and dancing, flags waving, and a lot of food (quick note for visitors: prepare to witness impressive quantities of hot dogs and ice cream being consumed 🍦🌭). Our colleagues across Norway are celebrating too, joining in from some of our assets. 💙❤️ Can you guess the locations before they’re revealed?

🐝 You may not bee-lieve this, but… … the Talayuela II solar farm in Spain is now home to 200 queen beehives. We’re buzzing to see this beautiful pesticide-free apivoltaic project up and running and already beautifully integrating itself into this glorious Extremadura pastureland. And best of all? The project will also produce its own honey, which is sweet. 🍯 But enough from us. Hear from Erica, who visited the site recently.

Did you know that 90 per cent of all energy in Norway comes from hydropower? 💙💧 Every year, around this time, our team takes their snowmobiles out in the Norwegian mountains to measure the snow levels around our hydropower plants. This helps us estimate the amount of water that will flow down the hillsides and into our reservoirs when the snow starts to melt. The information they gather on these chilly tours is crucial for us to plan and manage our operations effectively. So come measure some snow with us! 🗻

We were blown away by some of the red carpet looks at the Oscars last night! ⭐ But at Statkraft, we're more into high visibility than high fashion. Because safety never goes out of style. 🙌

Like Bodø/Glimt football club, our colleagues at Glomfjord are flying high! Across many of our power plants in Northern Norway, we have staff whose hearts beat just a little faster today 💛🖤 The reason? Their favorite team Bodø/Glimt is taking on Portugal's Sporting CP in what is an historic last16 Champions League match for Norwegian football. We wish both the team and its supporters the very best of luck! And who knows, maybe there’ll be new reason for the team at Glomfjord power plant to celebrate like they did when Bodø/Glimt won the Norwegian league in 2023?

🐝Unbeelievable? Nah, it's true ... We're now sharing Talayuela solar farm in Spain with 200 queen bee hives. Aside from cranking Beeyoncé 24/7, these incredible creatures are responsible for the pollination of 90% of flowering plants and 75% of food crops. In short: if they go, we go. Dive into the carousel* to read more about why bees are beyond amazing and why we're honoured to be co-existing with them at Talayuela. *Warning: contains multiple bee puns.

Be honest: would you want to work with a sibling? 🤌 Well, the Fjæra sisters do it every day, and it looks like it’s going pretty well. But don’t take our word for it, dive into the carousel to hear from the sisters themselves ☝️

Snow mobiles: then and now edition ☃️ During the winter months and even into spring, our teams in locations such as the Norwegian mountains and plateaus need to access sites by snowmobile. ❄️ Their tasks can range from anything including upgrades to hydropower to snow measurement and lots in between. In fact, intrepid Statkraft adventurers have been making these sorts of trips for decades. How those snowmobiles look, however, has changed somewhat in the 70 years since this black and white image was taken. (And yes, we also think the first one looks like a giant beetle 😄) Top image: Navnløsbakken, Glomfjord, Norway, 1954 Bottom image: Snow-measuring at Dagalifjell, Norway, 2024

Even Olympic alpine skiers might think twice before taking on this “course”. And we don’t blame them. Where most of us see a steep, rugged mountainside, the pioneers of Norway’s early hydropower development saw opportunity. This photo shows the beginning of the penstock installation for Statkraft’s Glomfjord hydropower plant in Northern Norway, one of the state’s very first. The plant began operating in 1920 (that's four years before the Winter Olympics were even a thing). Generating renewable energy for 106 years deserves its own gold medal, if you ask us🥇

Hydropower is about knowing when to open up and when to hold back. It’s about handling pressure, keeping things flowing, and protecting what matters when conditions change. Just like love 💙 Happy VALVEntines Day!

We’re suddenly seeing a lot of global excitement around the #SuperbOwl 🦉 Honestly didn't see that coming. And while everyone’s getting hyped - and debating the outcome - we already know our winners: the barn owls living at our Rheidol hydropower site in Wales. These owls have been touching down here for around 20 years, safely raising generations of owlets alongside renewable energy production ⚡🌱 With the right habitat protection in place, nature and hydropower can (and do) thrive together. Our MVPs. 🏆 No question.

Snow, ice, sleet, wind, rain: the winter months can throw up some interesting challenges and landscapes for our site teams. Thankfully, they’re as experienced (and safe) as they are resourceful. 📍 Kjøllefjord wind farm, Norway
