Know the Truth y’all…suspending the gas tax lacked truth and transparency.
Why I Voted NO on HB 1199
I, like many Georgians share the concerns about rising gas prices and the financial pressure families are feeling right now. I am about to go to the gas station 😭 But Georgians need real relief.
HB 1199 wasn’t that solution. They dangled something that seemed appealing but it was a set up!
Three other legislators votes no.
This bill was presented as a routine tax update, but on the House floor we were given multiple last-minute versions filled with complex changes to Georgia’s tax code—without enough time to fully understand the impact on our families, small businesses, and communities.
That’s not responsible lawmaking.
Even more concerning, the bill selectively rejected parts of federal tax relief that could help people during tough economic times. That raises a simple question: who benefits—and who gets left behind?
I voted NO because:
• We should not rush complex tax policy
• We must be transparent about the impact
• Georgians deserve clarity—not confusion
We can—and must—address rising costs, including gas prices. But we must do it the right way.
Let’s slow down. Let’s get it right. Let’s put people first.
