Mirroring the nation’s transformation from feudal society to global industrial powerhouse, and synonymous with the bustling rhythm of its cities, Japan’s vast railway system is a globally unrivaled marvel of engineering. Following the 1872 opening of the first line between Shimbashi and Yokohama, rail technology was rapidly adopted to overcome Japan’s challenging, mountainous geography, and its historically isolated inland communities. Today, the Japanese rail infrastructure is a dual-natured marvel: a high-efficiency backbone for the economy and a preserved cultural network of "local lines" that safeguard the heritage, dialects, and seasonal traditions of the rural prefectures they serve.
One such line is the Akita Nairiku Railway (秋田内陸縦貫鉄道秋田内陸線), a 94.2-kilometer line that acts as the scenic spine of Akita Prefecture. Connecting Takanosu in the north to the historic samurai district of Kakunodate in the south, the line was fully unified in 1989 after decades of piecemeal construction originally intended for the regional mining and timber industries. Known as the "Smile Rail," it features 29 stations, many of them unstaffed, and traverses some of the most rugged terrain in Tohoku. By crossing dozens of bridges and piercing through the mountains of the Moriyoshi range, the railway provides an essential link for local residents while offering travelers a front-row seat to the "Ani River" views and the dramatic, heavy snowfalls that define Northern Japan's winters.

To everyone who has sent congratulations and encouragement as I begin this new chapter as a city council member — thank you from the bottom of my heart.
A few years ago, I stepped away from the frontlines of the music industry, distanced myself from the internet and social media, and quietly began a new challenge in a small local community in Japan.
Seeing so many friends from the global music community supporting this journey has deeply moved me.
Those who truly know me probably understood that even when my music was no longer visible from the outside, the flame I carry for music has never gone out, not even once.
Through music, many of us have experienced the power of moving people’s hearts. But influence always carries both power and responsibility.
To me, the principles of influence are the same as the principles of music itself.
A musician seeks harmony between people, emotions, and space through sound.
A politician should seek harmony within society through communications, and systems.
That is why I do not see these as separate paths.
For me, this journey into politics is simply an extension of the path I have already walked as a musician.
I deeply appreciate all the love and support from friends, collaborators, and fellow musicians around the world.
Thank you always.
