Behind reliable energy is careful planning - and some seriously big machinery!
The planned shutdown of Meandu Mine’s dragline is now underway – supporting the ongoing supply of coal to the Tarong power stations which enables Stanwell to deliver affordable and reliable energy for Queensland.
The dragline is the largest machine on site and mines the overburden to uncover the coal.
The shutdown lasts about six weeks and includes extensive electrical, mechanical and structural repairs and improvements to the machine, helping future proof one of the mine’s most important machines.
It’s also delivering an economic boost to the South Burnett region, with local contractors and suppliers engaged. Major contractor Sync Lift will provide expert planning and execution support.

A festival brimming with live entertainment, from fabulous bush poets to talented musicians, recently brought the historic town of Mount Morgan to life at the Golden Mount Festival.🥳🎉🎤
This annual event, steeped in the town’s gold mining heritage, draws the local community together to celebrate with parades, markets, historical displays and plenty of good vibes.
Stanwell contributed to the festivities through the Stanwell Power Station Community Sponsorship Program, specifically supporting the live entertainment that made the day memorable.

Our 1200MWh Stanwell Battery is entering an exciting new phase, shifting from major construction into the testing and commissioning stage.
Stanwell’s CEO Michael O’Rourke recently caught up with Stanwell’s Project Director - Energy Storage Jason Larsson, for an update on the project and Executive General Manager Energy Markets Steve Quilter to discuss how the battery will run when it comes online early next year.

Members of the Stanwell Power Station team swapped their safety gloves and helmets for gardening gloves and wide brimmed hats to chip in and help the Stanwell State School during a recent working bee.
It was hot and hard work as hundreds of pavers were dug up to make room for a beautiful new lawn. 🌱
Talk about laying the groundwork for something special. The work forms part of a broader landscaping project funded through Stanwell Power Station’s Community Partnership Fund, helping prepare the school for its upcoming 150th celebrations in August.
Great work to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and dug in to make a difference.

Old batteries? New purpose!
The Queensland Country Women’s Association at Kumbia recently dropped by Tarong power stations to collect a stack of batteries donated by the team.
From utes and tractors to a few mystery finds, every single battery is now being recycled, with funds going towards supporting the ‘Are you Bogged Mate’ initiative - helping raise awareness and spark important conversations about mental health among men in rural communities.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, helped coordinate the drop-off, and supported the cause.
Every battery truly counts!
