‘The Ruin’ is a poetic elegy that tells a story of the decline of a great citadel in an ancient nation. The narrator describes old and unfamiliar technologies, the crumbling of architecture and that of a forgotten people. The poet mourns great wisdom and its destruction by an uncanny fate. He wonders about human transience and why no man was left to defend or maintain such a place. He imagines the lives of the heroes who built the city, now lost to destiny, and the progress of time.’

Reflections on the ruins of an industrial past, the dust of devolution, and phantoms of greatness.
