Iāve been favouring direct drive again recently. Specifically on the FP9.
I ran DD for years back in the Tomas Haake and Jon Theodore medley days, then switched to chain and never really looked back. But lately I felt the pull back to direct driveā¦ and Iāve been LOVING it.
Over the years Iāve learnt that no gear actually makes you better. It always comes back to technique and how well youāve dialled your foot in.
That said, Iām seriously enjoying the feel of DD again right now.

Iād say the āThese Wordsā is probably my favourite track to play with Natasha. Well, TBH, I actually love the whole set, but with this track in particular, I just love putting that swing on it. Itās super comfy to sit in.

Also, something Iāve noticed is the context can change, but my playing doesnāt. I just do my thing and love it! Pop, metal, funk, fusion, this works for ALL of it. Heavy pocket, cranked snare, some nice swing, Iām there šŖš»

Iām using 9608sft 9000 for ALL kit sessions (sometimes 3-4hrs at a time!),
and the 9608R 9000 for all my padwork sessions.
Iām sooooo happy with these. Like I said in my previous post, Iāve never felt this grounded and stable with a throne before, so this is quite a game-changer for me. And they can go super high too!!! šŖš»

Ok, so I made some changesā¦ Itās subtle, but this is for the nerds.
- boosted the 808 sub at the start, balanced the parallel compression on the kit, brought the hats and OHs down a fraction, dialled the room sound back a touch, and less crush on the Master.
I always come in a little heavy handed on the first pass, so like to give the mix another go 24hrs later.
