This week at Creative Start we’ve seen something powerful happen through art, recovery and lived experience.
Stakes Ink spent time working alongside Lee, one of our staff members who uses poetry as part of his own recovery journey. Together they brought words, emotion and recovery to life on the graffiti wall at King George stadium.
Stakes Ink supported Lee to spray paint one of his own poems for the first time, helping turn deeply personal recovery writing into public art. Stakes Ink also created a piece himself inspired by one of Lee’s poems, showing the strength, honesty and hope that recovery can hold.
Both pieces are powerful reminders that creativity can give people a voice, rebuild confidence and help turn pain into something meaningful. This is exactly why art and recovery work so well together, and exactly what we believe in at Creative Start.
A huge thank you to Stakes Ink for giving his time, talent and encouragement this week. The impact goes far beyond the wall itself.

Celebrating the theame of growth, the symbolism comes through clearly:
butterflies = transformation,
birds = movement/freedom,
plants = growth,
moon/sun cycles = change and continuity,
water/sky movement = transition,
arrows and repeating motifs = direction and momentum.

Early start means an early finish with @stakesink on characters ! We kept in the the right one too but looks poopy on camera because of a fat shadow full wall to come!
A striking new mural has appeared in Grimsby as part of the Turn The Corner smokefree campaign.
The artwork was created by local street artist @stakesink , who delivered the large-scale piece at impressive speed while maintaining the high quality finish he’s known for locally. The mural was completed in time to support No Smoking Day and will also feature as the backdrop to a regional TV advert airing on ITV from April 8.
The project began when advert producers Supersonic, working via ChiefTV, approached Creative Start Arts in Health because of our experience delivering murals and working with artists across North East Lincolnshire.
Supersonic developed the concept for the campaign advert, while Creative Start supported the local delivery and worked with Stakes Ink to bring the artwork to life.
This was probably the quickest turnaround we’ve ever had for a mural. We only heard about the project a week ago, and having delivered more than 40 murals across the area, getting this completed in time was no small feat.
The mural visually reflects the campaign’s message, contrasting the harms of smoking with the hope and support available to people who want to stop.
The wider campaign is funded by 15 local authorities across Humber and North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire and coordinated by the Centre for Excellence, with local support from North East Lincolnshire Council.
Great to see creativity, collaboration and local talent coming together to communicate an important public health message.
