📢 Stage A Change is Taking A Pause!
Since 2020, Stage A Change has been committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Australian arts sector. We’ve supported over 2,500 people, including 300+ artists of color, and collaborated with 66 organizations and productions to create equal, authentic, and abundant opportunities for underrepresented voices.
However, like many arts organisations, we’ve faced significant challenges, particularly in securing the financial support needed to sustain and grow our impact.
We’ve reached a pivotal moment.
Stage A Change is entering an Intermission—a strategic shift to reassess how we can best serve artists of color and recalibrate for the future. During Intermission, we are entering into and deepening strategic relationships with partners and projects that align with our mission, visions and values, creating opportunities to make changes that impact both individuals and the sector. But we need your help to continue this vital work.
👉 Here’s how you can support:
1️⃣ Take our quick survey to share your thoughts.
2️⃣ Connect us with organisations that align with our mission.
3️⃣ Donate to our campaign if you can, and if not, please share it within your networks.
4️⃣ Raise your voice—advocates for equity and inclusion make change.
Will you stand with us? Will you Stage A Change?

It has been a truly incredible week! We kicked off seven days of workshops, weddings, welcomes and joy. Thank you so much for helping us celebrate Intermission this week.
We started with the first and second year classes at the VCA doing a session on anti-racism in the arts followed by connecting with members of our board in Hobart and Melbourne. Yall look good!!!
You helped us celebrate 7 years of Stage A Change at Malthouse where we reconnected with many of our former staff and former board members and colleagues who have supported us all along the way.
We got to be in the house to watch the final show of Tina the Tina Turner musical, which was the first commercial musical in Australia to engage a full-time DEI consultant for the entire run of the production! It’s been such a privilege to work with TEG Dainty team to prioritize this work and the needs of all artists!
And lastly, we spent six hours with the team at Oxfam delivering micro aggression training to team members around the country in person in Melbourne and then virtually.
Stage A Change is grateful to have an ever-growing network of supporters, collaborators,
and co-conspirators and we count ourselves lucky that you are a part of that team.
Thank you so much! I’ll see you soon.
Oh and big news coming later this week - stay tuned for the launch of our first Intermission partnership!! 🏆🏆

Thank you so much to all of our staff, facilitators, board, friends, community, supporters, clients, partners and people who make our world go around! Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, getting time off, none of the above, all of the above or just you and your nearest and dearest, we are celebrating you! We're so excited about a new direction for Stage A Change in the new year - so much to come, but for now, thank you for another great year of being the change we want to see on the stage!
Today we send our massive love and gratitude to this awesome human, Akansha Hungenahally! Since last July she has been holding down the fort with her will do energy - from comms to admin to social media to facilitation to onboarding and literally all the things between, she’s been the connector of all of Stage A Change’s parts!
Today is her last day in this role and we wish her nothing but wonderful things in her next journey! You may still see her pop up in a workshop here or there, and if you see her around Naarm, please give her a (consensual) hug or high five for all the ways she has been part of Stage A Changes’s heartbeat.
Or if that’s too far, how about you drop her some love on this here post!

Ticket to our ABIDE Learning Lab at the Motley Bauhaus are now on sale!
Moving beyond performative diversity, this Learning Lab defines access, belonging, inclusion, diversity and equity (ABIDE principles) using a framework that addresses each concept as an individual and specific part of a workplace, and shares tangible metrics to recognise and measure them.
In this workshop you will gain a clear understanding of the intersection between ABIDE, learn how to recognise shortfalls within your work, and be offered solutions to enact change.
All participants are invited to mingle at the Motley Bauhaus bar after the event, where food and drink will be available for purchase - so make sure to bring your friends!
