The conversations and connections are often what stay with you long after the conference ends.
That was certainly the case at the USHSR Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. We were proud to sponsor the event and spend a few days listening, learning, and talking with industry partners and global experts who are all working toward the same goal: bringing high-speed rail to the United States.
Before the conference officially kicked off, Kiewit, Stacy Witbeck, and Herzog hosted a High-Speed Social Hour. It was a chance to put the presentations aside for a bit and just talk shop.
People shared stories from jobsites across the country and around the world, talked honestly about challenges, and exchanged ideas about what it will take to move this industry forward. To build it takes collaboration, trust, and people willing to learn from one another.
We’re grateful to be part of the momentum and we're ready to build cool stuff.

At the US High Speed Rail Association Annual Conference, the Track and Systems Construction session brought together some of the sharpest minds in the industry, and the takeaways were worth sharing.
Keith Tarkalson, VP and High Speed Rail Project Director, put it plainly:
🎙️"If you get your logistics figured out, construction can then run smoothly."
And Scott Norman, EVP at Herzog set the tone for where this industry is headed:
🎙️"We are on the doorstep of doing something great. Let's go and do it."
The momentum behind American high-speed rail is real, the people building it are ready, and the work ahead is worth showing up for.

More than 1,000 people showed up to celebrate a project groundbreaking: the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Healdsburg Extension.
Nine miles of new track, a new station, and a North Bay community that has been waiting on this for a long time. There’s a train coming to town, and we get to be the ones who build it.
The SMART Healdsburg extension is one of those projects that reminds us why this work matters.

There is something special about walking into a conference knowing it was meant for you: a woman in transportation.
The WTS International Annual Conference theme was “Leading the Way”.
We took that literally.
Jennifer DeLong led attendees through the Sixth Street Viaduct, one of LA’s most talked about civic structures - and a bridge we built and know well.
Regan Heineke, Kathryn La Chapelle, Noemy Sanchez, and Bhanu Karuturi represented the best of what this industry has to offer.
