Memory & Survival story @bujubanton 1994.. Stony Brook Univ with @coppa.razzi Sold out show! Buju was red hot on the dancehall scene. His newly released single “Murderer” was mashing up di place🔥 I asked Buju if he remembered the show… he immediately said, “Yeah man, Stonybrook!”. Buju recalls as he was performing some songs, many people could not sing along as they did not know the lyrics!! ☺️Why? Because he sang some songs, which are now Legendary, Anthems – but at the time no one knew them as they were from “Til Shiloh” which was not formally released as yet. Only “Murderer” had been released at that point.💯 Even Buju’s style and vibe was new. I can remember how many of us were stunned at the now “conscious” Rasta man. His breath-taking performance was on a whole other higher level and vibration. He mesmerized us with this new energy, and the rest is History. 🙏🏿🔥❤️After the show, I ventured off to Brooklyn to drop Buju off. On the way back, around 5am, I got in a life-altering accident. I veered off the Northern St Pkwy & ended up deep in the woods. I woke up in SB Hospital, which was at least 10 miles away from the accident. When I regained consciousness, a police was standing beside me with a body bag. He said “ This is what I thought I would be taking you in”. I had broken the bones in my jaw from the airbag, so my jaw was wired shut. I had 4 broken ribs from the steering wheel. All the fingers on my right hand were filled with glass shards stuck under my knuckles… they deduced that I tried to punch my way out of the car. To this day, I have no idea how I got to the hospital or who found me because the car was so deep in the woods that it was not visible from the highway. I was told a good Samaritan found me, and recognized me as a student at the university. He left no contact information and never checked on me or came to visit. His name is all he left.. and it was Gabriel. To say that I feel that I was covered spiritually is an understatement. I was meant to be here for a reason… God pickney, blessed an covered. Buju… thank you for the memory. I grew closer spiritually to God from that incident and reflect on it very often. God is always present🙏
