Last week, our team was glad to join the Hanover Chamber of Commerce for their 4th Annual Business of the Year Awards, hosted at our very own South Shore YMCA Laura's Center for the Arts. It was a wonderful evening celebrating the businesses, organizations, and community leaders who help make the South Shore such a special place to live, work, and grow. Congratulations to all of the scholarship, grant, and award recipients recognized throughout the night! Thank you to the Chamber for bringing our community together for such a meaningful and fun celebration. We’re proud to be part of a community that continues to grow stronger together.

A huge THANK YOU to Ahold Delhaize for sending not one, but TWO volunteer teams to help us “de-winterize” the South Shore YMCA Family Farm! 🌱💪 From morning to afternoon, their energy and teamwork helped us get the farm ready for a new growing season—just as the need for fresh food continues to rise across the South Shore. 🗣️ “Their work helps us start the season strong and ensures we can grow more food for our community at a time when it’s needed most,” said Kate Smith, Farm Manager. We’re so grateful for your partnership and spirit of service! #SouthShoreYMCA #FamilyFarm #AholdDelhaize #VolunteerImpact #FoodSecurity #CommunityStrong

💦 May is National Water Safety Month 💦 Water Safety Tip #2: Never swim alone without a water watcher. Helping kids stay water smart means teaching them to never swim alone. Children should always be actively supervised in and around water, whether at the pool, beach, lake, or waterfront. Choose swimming areas with lifeguards whenever possible, and make sure a responsible adult is focused on watching the water without distractions. 💙 As America’s Swim Instructor, the South Shore YMCA is proud to help children build confidence and learn lifesaving water safety skills. Montilio's Baking Company generously gifted this amazing swimming pool cake to the Hale Family YMCA after the Taste of the South Shore. Our Strypers Squad, 12 & under, enjoyed it thoroughly after practice in the real swimming pool. An amazing homage to the Y and its programs! 💦 May is National Water Safety Month, and The South Shore YMCA Strypers are committed to providing every swimmer with a safe environment in which they can develop the tools they need to grow personally, socially, and athletically. We were honored to welcome Louisa Hayward and Roger Petersen from Texas to the Hale Family YMCA in Quincy in April. Louisa is the granddaughter of Carle Hayward, the longest-serving Board Chair in South Shore YMCA history and the namesake of Camp Hayward. It was especially meaningful to see Louisa holding a photograph of her grandfather during the visit - a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact of leadership, service, and community across generations. Pictured: Roger Petersen, Trevor Williams, Louisa Hayward, and Bruce Netherwood.

💦 May is National Water Safety Month 💦 Water Safety Tip #1: Always ask permission before going near the water. Helping kids stay water smart starts with building safe habits early, like teaching children to always ask a trusted adult before going in or near pools, lakes, beaches, or any body of water. 💙 As America’s Swim Instructor, the South Shore YMCA is proud to help children build confidence and learn lifesaving water safety skills. Quick update from our Hale Family Y Wellness Team 💪 We’re making some exciting upgrades, brand-new floors, and we’re grateful for all the positive energy our members continue to bring every day. While construction is underway, we appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, and teamwork as we share the space and keep gym etiquette strong. Thanks for helping make the transition smooth while we build back better. We can’t wait for you to enjoy the improvements!
