Thank you to everyone who walked and rolled over to celebrate the opening of the newly enhanced Lee Gulch Lookout earlier this week! It was wonderful to see so many community members exploring the new amenities and enjoying this special place along the Canal together.
Located at the confluence of the High Line Canal and Lee Gulch trails, the enhanced overlook now features terrace seating, benches, a reimagined trail crossing, a boulder scramble, natural play features and views of one of the Canal’s three remaining wooden flumes dating back to the 19th century.
This project and opening celebration were made possible through the partnership and support of South Suburban Parks and Recreation (@ssprd ), @arapahoecounty and High Line Heroes who contributed to the Great Lengths Campaign. On a beautiful sunny afternoon, we gathered to celebrate this shared accomplishment and loved seeing visitors already making the space their own.
Have you visited the new Lee Gulch Lookout yet? We’d love to see it through your eyes. Snap a photo and tag us on social media!
Meet Kevin O’Brien, South Platte Park’s School Programs Coordinator and outdoor education enthusiast 🌿🦆
After more than eight years as a middle school teacher, Kevin brought his passion for education and curiosity about nature to South Platte Park. Today, he leads hands-on programs that help students explore everything from local wildlife to life under water, inspiring the next generation of outdoor explorers along the way!
Kevin says some of his favorite moments are when “nature gets to be my co-teacher as well as my classroom.”
When he’s not helping students discover the outdoors, you might find him birdwatching by the lakes, skating at the Sports Complex, or searching for kingfishers, killdeer… and ducks (he’s a self-proclaimed “big duck guy” 🦆).
Thank you, Kevin, for helping connect our community to nature every day!
This spring, we’re excited to celebrate 37 incredible South Suburban employees graduating from high schools and colleges across our community. 🎓
Balancing work and school is no small feat, and these team members have shown dedication, time management, and perseverance every step of the way. Their hard work not only supports their own goals, but also strengthens our entire District.
Congratulations, graduates, and thank you for everything you do! 👏 We can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
