Congratulations to the 2026 E-Point Award winner, presented to “Improving Early Scoliosis Detection with a Low-Dose Mobile Imaging and Automated Measurement Platform: A Cross-Sectional Screening Study,” presented by Guilin Chen, MD at the 2026 IMAST meeting. (Award accepted by Nan Wu, MD, PhD) #SRS #ScoliosisResearch #SRSIMAST26 #SpineSurgery
Instead of standard school-based screening programs, the authors developed and implemented a decentralized scoliosis screening workflow enabling on-site diagnosis and referral decision-making with a mobile, low-radiation full-spine imaging platform. The workflow was implement from September, 2024 to May, 2025 at 20 cities in China, and 44, 821 adolescents were screened across 20 schools and 9 cities. The referral to diagnosis rate increased from 15% to 95%, and substantially reduced the diagnosis time and radiation dose.
SRS members represent some of the leading names in research and innovation in the field of spinal differences and health. If you need information about spine issues, consider our Find A Specialist tool to connect with one of our members. Congratulations to the 2026 Innovation Award winner, presented to “The SRS-Lenke-Aubin 3D Classification: A Structured and Clinically Relevant Extension of the Lenke System to Capture Transverse Plane Deformities in AIS,” presented by Carl-Eric Aubin, PhD, P. Eng at the 2026 IMAST meeting.
This project has been a critical effort of the SRS 3D Classification Task Force in changing our understanding of AIS using conventional 2D parameters, to incorporate the true 3D nature of the deformity in AIS. Two new transverse plane descriptors were incorporated: orientation of the regional plane of deformation (ORPD) and apical vertebral rotation (AVR). The classification system was then validated using a cohort of 285 AIS cases. Over 55% of ORPD variability remained unexplained by 2D parameters, demonstrating the significant added value of the 3D descriptors. #SRS #ScoliosisResearch #SRSIMAST26 #SpineSurgery
