For years PCOS was framed as just an âovary problemâ when in reality many women were struggling with insulin resistance, inflammation, fatigue, weight changes, irregular cycles, fertility challenges, and mental health symptoms long before getting answers.
The official shift from PCOS to PMOS matters because it acknowledges this condition is bigger than the ovaries alone. It is endocrine, metabolic, reproductive, and deeply connected to long term health.
This conversation matters even more for South Asian women who often develop insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction at lower BMIs and are too often dismissed or diagnosed late.
A new name alone will not fix everything.
But better language can lead to better recognition, earlier screening, and more complete care.
You deserve to be heard, believed, and treated early đ€

Letâs talk about it:
As a physician, one of the weirdest and honestly darkest things to watch in real time is how quickly public trust in evidence-based medicine has eroded while preventable disease and preventable complications quietly come back.
Not because medicine suddenly stopped working.
Not because vaccines or prophylaxis stopped being effective.
But because misinformation became more emotionally compelling than data.
A few things that genuinely keep me up at night lately:
âą Insurance companies routinely denying coverage for evidence-based obesity medications while approving far more invasive interventions later in the disease process. Obesity is a chronic multifactorial disease involving neurohormonal regulation, genetics, metabolism, environment, and socioeconomic factors, but we still treat it like a moral failure instead of a medical condition.
âą Increasing refusal of newborn vitamin K prophylaxis despite decades of evidence showing it prevents vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB), including catastrophic intracranial hemorrhage. Newborns are physiologically vitamin K deficient: placental transfer is poor, breast milk contains low vitamin K levels, and neonatal clotting factor stores are limited.
âą Measles and pertussis resurgence tied to declining vaccination rates. Measles is one of the most contagious viruses known, with an estimated R0 of 12â18, meaning herd immunity requires roughly 95% population immunity.
âą The systematic dismantling of reproductive healthcare while the US already has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among high-income countries. Restrictions on reproductive care do not eliminate miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, fetal anomalies, hemorrhage, or obstetric emergencies. They delay care.
Watching preventable suffering return because misinformation became aesthetic, profitable, and algorithm-friendly is honestly one of the more horrifying parts of practicing medicine right now.
So if youâre wondering why you are seeing so many doctors taking to social media, this is why.

Today 5/1/26, the fifth circuit of appeals granted Louisianaâs request to reinstate the requirement that mifepristone is obtained in person, restricting access to telemedicine abortion care.
This requirement was lifted by the FDA in 2021 after extensive research and abundant proof of its safety and efficacy in providing safe abortions at home to those with limited access.
If the US Supreme Court doesnât block this ruling, this will severely limit the already very sparse and politicized miscarriage and abortion care in this country.

Air pollution isnât just a lung problem.
Fine particles like PM2.5 can enter the bloodstream, trigger inflammation, and affect blood vessels, raising the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
And this isnât a long-term, distant effect.
We see increases in heart events on days when pollution spikes. Sometimes the same day.
Globally, about 1 in 5 cardiovascular deaths is linked to air pollution.
That makes it one of the most overlooked cardiovascular risk factors we have.

If youâve ever said âI never get the flu,â this is for you.
The flu shot doesnât give you the flu. Feeling a little off after is your immune system doing its job, not an infection.
Every year in the U.S., influenza sends hundreds of thousands of people to the hospital and kills tens of thousands. Globally, it continues to cause serious illness and death, especially in children.
The goal isnât to prove youâll get the flu.
Itâs to make sure that if you do, itâs less severe.
Thatâs what prevention looks like.
