I'm not usually one to make posts on here but this one has been special, so buckle up!
The final touches are happening today on the Squizzy ViKtorius MK2 before I hit the road to personally hand-deliver it to the man himself later in the week.
This one was meant to grace the stages on the recent US tour with GWAR and Soulfly. Unfortunately, due to current world-wide shipping issues and delays the custom Kahler trem didn't arrive in Oz until the day after King Parrot flew out to the States.
Squiz's specs were as close as possible to his original MK1 with the only difference being the pickup. Another incredible single piece of Queensland red cedar supplied to us by Dave at Australian Guitar Timbers in QLD. The neck was built from the same piece of Tassie Blackwood as the MK1 which was sourced from Mountain River Timber in Adelaide.
I asked Squiz if he would be happy to travel up to our workshop so measurements could be taken to ensure everything would be identical to the MK1 we built for him and he went out of his way to drive the almost 1200km (746 miles) round trip and hang out for the night. I even had him on the tools once he got here shaping the body. Incredible moments like these really are the reason we exist.
If you've never had the opportunity to try a Kahler tremolo you're doing yourself an injustice. Nothing comes close the amount of adjustment and response from these tremolos.
This neck is a whopper!!!
As with the MK1, I gave the guitar to Squiz in a half completed stage and handed him a pencil. I told him to draw all over it showing any changes he would like after holding it himself. He made some deeper lines for the contours which were awesome. The neck was left at 27.5mm down to 25.5 at the heel at that stage. He grabbed it and said "It feels like a cricket bat... I love it... Don't change a thing on the neck." He asked for a big, chunky C shape neck like on those old Gibsons, so I matched the shape of one of my customs.... MK2 is a slightly different profile. Again, Squiz said "Leave it like that".... We did
