Hui, aloha! My name is Belinda, also known by my Hawaiian name Kalani. A Native Hawaiian and Native Mexican woman born and raised in the Bay area, 1 moved home to my roots at 19, and have been here ever since! I am the creator and owner of Native Diaspora, a brand and podcast that weaves us together as a people. Native Diaspora’s fabric stems from 3 words I created, Dekälānize, Remälanize, and Rewaitalize. Kala in Hawaiian means money, mãla means garden, or cultivated fields, and wai means water. Essentially undoing the system built by billionaires and elites, and reverting back to ‘āina and community, steering away from mass corporations and keeping sust’ainability and barter systems in mind. Money an issue? That’s okay, I also do a barter market once a month, trading some of my services or merch at the Ahupua’a Trade Market in Waimānalo. Whether 1 cultivated it myself, it is the idea that if I’m not making it, I’m supporting my community and a small or local business that can. Select products are donated to frontline organizations and a family in Palestine. I’ve recently decided to expand my business and skills to one of my truest passions- astrology. Since I was a child, I was obsessed with the stars, spells, and readings. Kalani also means sky, heavenly, and spiritual, so I guess you can say it fits.

Don’t forget to visit our community outreach tonight. If you're struggling with your journey to sobriety, you can share your story over coffee and a cookie with us. If you need hygiene products or a new outfit, remember that everyone deserves access to clean clothing and personal care items. Feel free to stop by between 6 and 8 PM.

My name is Belinda, or better known by my Hawaiian name Kalani through my adult years. Native Diaspora has been a vision in the making. A journey of learning, unlearning, healing and connecting. As a mixed Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) and Native Mexican woman born and raised in the Bay, I grew up feeling disconnected from my roots. Like many in the diaspora community, I struggled with identity, belonging, and the impact of colonization on my family and self. Whether through my backpacking travels, sailing through Papahānaumokuākea channel, I have been on a journey to unlearn what I’ve been shaped and conditioned into believing, and driven by experiencing the world through the lens of my kūpuna (ancestors). This is more than a platform, it’s a movement towards autonomy. Through building connection and community, Native Diaspora weaves us together as a people — through storytelling, creativity, and ancestral truth.
