SPS' commitment to fresh, local produce in school meals continues to grow! The SPS Farm was recently awarded a $100,000 Farm to School Grant from the Oregon Department of Education. The grant funds will not only increase the variety of fruits and veggies the farm grows, but will create greater opportunities for student learning and involvement on the farm. The SPS All-Natural Mowing Crew makes a special appearance to support academics! Our goat herd was curious and interested to hear some good Mystery Writing tales about an imaginary goat escape, performed by Page Elementary 2nd graders! The Board will meet in Executive Session at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Business Meeting at 7:00 p.m. The Board may authorize a staffing reduction for administrators, certified, and classified staff for the 2026-27 school year. April showers bring May flowers at Riverbend Elementary! A schoolwide effort in April put the focus on the positive by catching students doing good. Every student earned a petal representing their growth, achievement or showing kindness. They proudly presented their petals at the office where its arrival was celebrated with the appropriate fanfare – students rang a bell, had their picture taken and got a sticker. All of their positive choices contributed to creating a beautiful flower garden display! Way to grow Bears! Riverbend Elementary School #WeAreSPS

An egg-citing way to learn about animals! Kinders in Mrs. Knight’s classroom at Maple Elementary got hands-on in their Wonders language arts and Mystery Science curriculum in a unique way by hatching quail eggs in the classroom. Students got an up close look as the quail chicks pipped and snipped their way out of their shells. This Friday, May 8, is an early release day for all students. Elementary students will be released at 12:30 p.m. Middle and high school students will be released at 1:15 p.m. Lunch will be served as usual. Bus riders will be dropped off at their bus stops 2 hours and 20 minutes earlier than their regular time. *This does not apply to A3, The Academy of Arts & Academics, which has its own calendar. Guy Lee PTO's 4th Annual Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Celebration is coming up this Friday! The whole community is invited to this free, family-friendly event. • Friday, May 8 • 5-8 p.m. • Guy Lee Elementary, 755 Harlow Rd.
