This week we’re celebrating Play in Healthcare Week. Every day Spread a Smile’s entertainers visit young people in hospitals and hospices spreading smiles and enabling children to play, escape for a while and just be a child again.

An inspiring evening at our second PR Dinner, bringing together PR and communications professionals to learn more about the work of Spread a Smile 💜
Hosted by Phil Caplin, Founder of leading broadcast PR firm Broadcast Revolution, at the beautiful Corinthia London, the evening gave guests the chance to connect with fellow professionals, build new relationships and hear more about how Spread a Smile brings joy and laughter to seriously ill children and their families. ✨
Guests heard from our Chief Executive, Lucy Jackson, about the impact of our work, while a magician helped showcase Spread a Smile in action throughout the evening.

This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we’re sharing the story of 5-year-old Athena 💜
After becoming seriously ill aged just 3, Athena was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis Obliterans, a life-limiting lung condition. Since then, Athena and her family have faced lengthy hospital stays, ongoing treatment and unimaginable uncertainty.
Throughout it all, Spread a Smile has been there to support the family with bedside visits, virtual sessions, theatre trips, parties and Smile Hampers — creating moments of joy and connection during some of their hardest days. 🧸
This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting how important emotional support, wellbeing and having something positive to look forward to can be for seriously ill children and their families. Spread a Smile provides just that, help families make happy memories together, connect with others facing similar challenges and find moments of fun alongside hospital life and treatment.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re highlighting the importance of emotional wellbeing for seriously ill children and their families at Spread a Smile. 💜
Serious illness can turn worlds upside down — long hospital stays, intensive treatment and time away from home can lead to isolation, uncertainty and emotional exhaustion for children, young people and their families.
That’s why our family-centred approach focuses on more than just moments in hospital. Through in-person visits, family events and outings, and virtual entertainer sessions, we bring laughter, connection and comfort whenever it’s needed most.
As one parent shared:
“When they arrive in hospital, everything changes — his face lights up with pure joy. For a while, the pain and worry fade away.”

Huge thank you to everyone who joined us this week for our sold-out Young Committee Pub Quiz at Uncommon. 🩵
Organised by our incredible Young Committee and new chairs Aaron Maurice and Joshua Maurice, the event welcomed 60 supporters and raised an amazing £734 to help us continue spreading smiles to seriously ill children and young people across the country.
Aaron and Joshua said:
“We are both grateful and humbled to have the opportunity to chair the Spread a Smile Young Committee and inspire the next generation of supporters of a charity that means so much to us.
