Smart planting starts with smart tools.🌱
@spokaneparks / Spokane Urban Forestry are using data-driven mapping software, funded with a grant through Avista's Named Communities Investment Fund (NCIF), to pinpoint which Spokane neighborhoods are most in need of tree canopy.
These new trees will grow up to provide cooling shade, improve air quality and bring real relief to folks in our communities.
It takes city staff, community partners and volunteers to pull it off, and Avista's grant program helps make it all possible.

Our amazing staff and volunteers at Manito have been busy planting Duncan Garden with approximately 30,000 annuals!
This year, Gardener Lilly Wasson led the design, collaborating closely with the rest of the Manito team to select a diverse range of plants that will bring vibrant color and texture to the garden.
“We focused on bold, eye-catching colors using the tried-and-true annuals that are known to perform well in the full sun environment of Duncan Garden,” said Wasson. “We also added in a few new varieties that we are excited to trial this season.”
Visitors can look forward to seeing lilies, dahlias, snapdragons, petunias, zinnias, cosmos, geraniums, salvia, rudbeckia, phlox, and more this season, with peak bloom expected in July!

My newest LEGO build:
The city of Spokane Washington.
The build is more than 15,000 bricks, and took more than 250 hours between November 2025-May 2026 to complete.
It covers everything in Downtown Spokane from Boone Ave at the north end, to the railway viaduct in the south. From Division in the east to Cedar St in the west. If you see a building or business you recognize, tag them!
Some of my favorite nerd details/building secrets:
There are more than 1800 bright green plant leafs (LEGO piece 32607)
Creating the The Gesa Pavilion is the only time I’ve ever cheated and modified a LEGO piece within a build, cutting (LEGO piece 63141) to different lengths to build the contour of the pavilion.
The model is more than 6 feet across at its widest, and the majority of downtown is built 6 bricks up off the ground to accommodate the elevation drop of Spokane Falls.
The 50 foot Christmas tree is built inside (and totally enclosed so nobody will ever see it) River Park Square
The world’s largest red wagon is a 1x2 tile. The world’s only(?) Garbage Goat is even smaller.
The full build sits on 14 connected 48x48 plates, and each one includes an easter egg blue & white trash container
To my knowledge this is the only LEGO build of the only Chilis in Washington state.
👕 Have you ever wondered how the Bloomsday runners get dressed up in vintage Bloomsday shirts every year? Spokane’s own Lala Gerber has been doing it for 30 years!
🏃 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ Often referred to as simply “the Bloomsday runners,” the piece entitled “The Joy of Running Together” was created by artist David Govedare in 1984, and features 40 unique steel figures.
Govedare captured the unique likeness of each figure by having real athletes pose in front of a white wall with a light shining on them, then tracing their silhouettes.
A big change and fun addition is coming to downtown Spokane 👀
Construction is underway for Spokane Skylines: a zipline over the Spokane River.
Here’s the plan for the new side-by-side zipline:
-Starts near the downtown Spokane Library
-Goes through the Monroe Street Bridge
-Ends in Browne’s Addition/Peaceful Valley
It’s funded, built, and ran by @zipmicamoon , and they plan to open late summer/early fall🙌🏻
