And it's go time! Submissions to our Lost/Found imprint are now open!!! Is your out-of-print prose book in need of a new home? If so, we'd love to consider your book for republication! Full details are available on our Submittable page, but the short version is: 1. We're looking for previously published fiction, nonfiction, or hybrid books that fit our mission and are currently out of print. While we welcome experimentation in every sense of the word, we will not be considering poetry books; we are a prose-only press. Additionally, we are not able to consider self-published books. 2. Potential authors must hold all rights to their manuscript and have formally terminated the contract with their original publisher to be considered for this imprint. 3. Authors will need to have the file (.doc or PDF) for their book to submit. Our beloved long-time SLP team member Abigail Oswald will be serving as Lost/Found Editor, and she is so excited about this journey of (re)discovery. Direct from Abby herself: "There are so many authors with wonderful books that went out of print, so many small presses with beautiful legacies, and I can’t wait to share what I find!" splitlippress.submittable.com and also linked in our tree!

Let's go! It's cover reveal and preorders day for @shandamdwrites 's BROTHER EPISTLES! On a Philadelphia street in 1992, Shanda McManus's brother Monir was killed in a drive-by shooting. Three decades later, still haunted by his murder, McManus traces her brother’s life through their upbringing in North Philadelphia, Monir’s teen fatherhood and stint in the U.S. Army to support his young sons, and finally, his participation in the drug trade. In BROTHER EPISTLES, a series of intimate letters, McManus writes as both sister and physician, blending social commentary, memory, and collective history to lament the fragility of Monir’s life while demanding an American reckoning for the socioeconomic structures responsible for so many young Black men dying through homicide. A heartbreaking conversation between a sister and her brother, leavened with humor, family love, and unconquerable Black joy, BROTHER EPISTLES is a powerful meditation on Black identity, the criminalization of Black boys, and the devastating ripple effects of a tragic loss on the loved ones left behind. Bursting with praise from @deeshaphilyaw , @jacqueline_woodson , @ranaawdish , @danielle_ofri , @kovensuzanne , and Bridgett M. Davis (!!! that line-up!), Shanda's memoir BROTHER EPISTLES will be published on June 23rd, but it is available for preorders (as well as ARC requests) NOW! Order at the link in our bio or /product-page/brother-epistles !!!

UPDATE 5/4: application is now CLOSED. START YOUR ENGINES and start gathering your application materials: our new novel/novella editor, jonah wu @rabblerouses , is going to be looking for a few readers to join their 2026 N/N reading team! Readers are COMPENSATED!!! Novel/novella reader apps will open in ONE WEEK on Fri May 1 and will close at the end of Fri May 8, or after we've received 250 applications (and if this is anything like past reader app periods, we WILL close early). The N/N reading period runs from July 1 through September 1. More details forthcoming on the app, which will be available ON Fri May 1 (usual link in bio, it's splitlippress.submittable.com ). We'll update the top of this post on Friday as well. But to answer a couple of other questions that came up with the other reader apps: yes, this position is fully remote. Yes, we are open to international applicants. The time commitment is ~2hrs/week during the reading period. 25% of the submission fee proceeds are split equally among all readers, who also receive a copy of the team's chosen book upon publication. Like we mentioned earlier, there WILL be a cap on applications, but we're giving you the heads up now so you can get your information in order: Please include a short biographical statement, any relevant journal/reading experience, and any personal novel/novella writing experience (writers often make the best readers). Our NN editor jonah would love to hear about 1-3 novels or novellas you recently read and enjoyed. What did you enjoy, what drew you to the book(s), and/or what stood out and made it/them memorable? (Feel free to be as concise or elaborate in your answers as you wish.) Most of all, let us know why you are specifically interested in reading for Split/Lip Press! Our readers typically stick with us for multiple seasons (and this is the first time we've opened up for novel/novella readers SINCE 2020 WHEN WE STARTED THE PERIOD!!!) so we're really looking for the best fits--and we hope it'll be you!

Happy Publication Anniversary Day! It's been one year since we published @haydenmcasey13 's short story collection SHOW ME WHERE THE HURT IS! A collection of stories about love and grief, anchored in brokenness—broken people, broken relationships, broken systems—and the obsessions and insecurities that prevent us from revealing ourselves to one another. The characters in Hayden Casey’s debut collection SHOW ME WHERE THE HURT IS are on quests for betterment, for pleasure, for distraction—and ultimately, for transformation. One woman takes up work as an “in-betweener,” hired to fill the lonely gap between relationships. A college student devotes himself to hot yoga in the wake of his mother’s unexpected death. When a buzzy new weight-loss pill hits the market, a woman signs up for a trial—and tries to hide it from her partner. An undergrad becomes entangled in her roommate’s feverish relationship with a grad student and watches in horror as the pair begins to sprout each other’s body parts. Across thirteen stories that brush up against the strange and surreal, SHOW ME WHERE THE HURT IS tenderly exposes old wounds that have been carefully concealed so that we might understand the hurt in one another, creating, as Caitlin Horrocks said, "a beautiful story collection not just about people, but about the wistful, shimmering spaces between them." And we're so happy to have SMWTHI--and Hayden!--with us at SLP! We're also happy to share that the ebook edition is now (and forever after) $5 when purchased at our press store!
