One more sculpture that we bring to Italy is Black Nidum.
Here are three main features of Black Nidum:
✨ This is a nest-shaped sculpture dedicated to birds that are endangered or considered extinct. An algorithm generates birdsongs of 14 species in real time based on a database of sounds of extinct birds collected by ornithologists and birdwatchers.
✨ The sculpture has a performative component: it changes its light and sound scenario in real time.
✨ The model is controlled by real-time environmental data to adjust its lighting according to the current number of aircraft in the area. When a plane flies by, the calls of extinct crows are heard. The birds’ calls go silent, the lights fade, and then the sculpture slowly returns to life — creating a fragile cycle of absence and reappearance.

Exploring solar eclipses with our new sculpture!
It’s made from bamboo rods and light elements, and its shape refers to the image of a solar eclipse — one of the brightest and most significant celestial phenomena in the history of culture.

Here’s how we whipped up our own PCB board for Black Nidum. We’ve engineered this plate to manage 64 channels for hooking up 64 LED strips, all powered by a LattePanda Mu, MaxMSP and neural network.

AGU @aguconference Ocean Sciences Meeting 2026 in Glasgow, one of the largest international conferences dedicated to ocean sciences.
Our presentation was part of the session “Mutual Currents: Exploring Art–Science Partnerships for Ocean Engagement,” a pioneering panel bringing artistic research into dialogue with marine science. Organized by @robertina.sebjanic@burbu.lla and Joan Llort. I shared research behind the project SENSUS on bioelectric communication in aquatic environments and discussed how artistic methodologies can expand ways of sensing and understanding ocean life.

Our Nidum will be at the Xinying Shimmer Festival for almost 2 weeks.
This sculpture looks like a huge bird’s nest made of thousands of hand-woven rattan rods.
It also has warm LED light streaming inside, creating a sense of space that needs to be sheltered and guarded.
You’ll be able to see the sculpture till March 8.
