1️⃣ @iswasbrewing (with delicious musubi bites from @kanin.chi ) - specializes in saisons, has so many incredible bottled options!
2️⃣ @spitefulbrewing - award winning beers, a taproom with darts and bar snacks
3️⃣ @halfacrebeer - beer garden & full kitchen + home to the infamous Daisy Cutter!

Sip & stroll with me as I take you on a craft beer experience through the cozy, tree lined @ravenswood_chi neighborhood. Welcome to @maltrowchicago , where you can discover a distillery, winery & 8 breweries all within blocks of each other. You’ll find experimental IPAs to traditional European lagers to barrel-aged Barleywine. On our tour we visited @spitefulbrewing@iswasbrewing & @halfacrebeer . It’s always fun to discover new breweries!
I enjoyed our visit to Spiteful Brewing. We met co-founder Jason Klein, who started as a home brewer in 2009. They now have a real brewery with 16 beers on draft in their taproom. It was great to see the neighbors playing trivia plus it’s dog friendly. Jason showed us the brewery which was awesome. I enjoyed a bleacher bum (5%) beer which was an American Blonde Ale brewed with peaches. I loved how refreshing it was. My wife loved her IPA with tangerine (6.2%). The citrus brought the beer to life. I also enjoyed a can of their Hefe (5.5%) a traditional German-style Hefeweizen with notes of banana bread & clove.
We also visited is/was brewing. Founder Mike Schallau took us on a tour. His brewery specializes in artisanal saisons. They opened their tap room in 2014. We sipped on a half pour of Bourgeois Daydreams (3.2%) which is their flagship saison. It’s low calorie with no residual sugar. It’s good for all day drinking. The best part is we were able to meet the three brewery cats. @kanin.chi also dropped off musubi, a popular Hawaiian snack, for us to enjoy. I was able to try the longanisa & egg, which was quite flavorful.
Our final stop was Half Acre, which was founded in 2007. They have a huge brewery along with a taproom, kitchen & gift shop. I enjoyed their pony pilsner (5.5%) which is an American lager. My wife liked her light lager (4.0%) which was smooth. It was a perfect way to end the night. Their bar bites were great. We enjoyed the popcorn chicken, pretzel bites & house made chips with pimento dip.
I highly recommend a visit to Malt Row to explore new breweries.

Norm is a S.O.B. Always has been. Always will be.
Our German-style Roggenbier brewed with rye for that spicy bite, soft clove and fruit from the hefeweizen yeast, and a clean, noble hop finish. Smooth and balanced…unlike like Norm, who was absolutely no help brewing this beer.
Norm is somehow 13 years (!?!?) young now! Wish our Norm boy a belated happy birthday!
