I accidentally made a magnet! I had to look it up to see if this was a real phenomenon or if I was losing my mind. I started using this metal nail set nine and a half years ago, and it has marked the center of each tonefield on every single handpan I have built and attempted to build. That is well over 7,000 strikes, metal on metal, and it has caused this nail set to become magnetic!

This is my view for hours each week, working with the pneumatics to hammer the tonefields out of the curve and get them defined.
Shaping is hard work! This part truly sets the stage for how tuning is going to go and how the instrument is going to sound.
I free shape every Spirit Handpan. I do not use a mold. This gives me a level of control I prefer for my builds that I find make them unique.

Making handpans is intense! It is loud, it requires deep focus, power, and a ton of force! It can be taxing to the body, mind, and nervous system, so I cherish those moments that are slow, calm, quiet, and even soft.
Making sure I get centered, grounded, and stay gentle with myself in the moments I can makes it possible to be present for the moments that require all that force, power, and focus.
