A very belated official introduction!
Some new followers so better late than never....
We are Neil and Karen - and we took the plunge and climbed off the Cape Town city hamster wheel and moved to Karen's father's farm near Greyton in the Overberg, in 2014. Being 7months pregnant with our second child and having an almost 2 year old was a challenge trying to navigate being new farmers and finding our feet.
Our backgrounds were not in farming! Neil was a property manager for a property company in Cape Town and Karen a physio. So Neil learned every thing on the job from Karen's father who grew up on an angora farm in the Karoo, and who had farmed angoras at Spinlea since 1991.
We will be sharing much of our journey and our lessons (which continue daily) and our passion for this land and our vision which is coming to life.
Holistic living, exercise and health has been a constant in our lives and what keeps us grounded. Connecting with our animals and rebuilding our soil and the land has brought us to a live a life we dreamed of. The good life is not always the easy life!
We share our lessons and beauty and bits of farming craziness and mindfulness and bring it all together so it fits together like a holistic puzzle. Everything is connected. And everything is there for a reason.

Lara & Willie’s day was the kind that invited you right into the moment. To linger. To experience. To bear witness. While deeply intentional in the details (doing most of the decor themselves, driving hours to collect candelabras, and donating leftover ‘decor’ fruit and veggies to local charities), they never let the details distract them from the substance of the day. This was Lara’s prayer before the ceremony, and it was a thought that radiated through the rest of the day. A whole community surrounding a couple as they enter a covenant and start their life together. An entire community celebrating them and cheering them into the next chapter. Having herself a jolly little lead up to Christmas this little zinnia is having!
A new girl from our breeding patch! Very exciting colour combo and a keeper for now.
She'll get isolated and hand pollinated to try to capture her genetics and we'll try to see if we can get another generation out of her before next season.

Still got a last few of our first season of breeding zinnias up on our website.
We're focusing on zinnias and creating new beauties this season.
They're the jolliest of flowers and everywhere people need a little bit of jolly!
We also have some of our new candles up online - made from our own essential oils distilled here on the farm (a 2 year project that is eventually ready! - we're just late with marketing it with a big bang, so if you'd like to get your hands on some of new ones head to our website.
