The treecreeper! A new edition to the series of bird wood engravings is complete. 💥 This little guy is carved from a nice block of pearwood, a little larger than the others, giving me a bit more space to play with. Really happy with it. It'll be making its event debut at the lovely Sunny Bank Mills Christmas Market at the end of the month.

Welcome to the world Black Phillip (living deliciously in retirement (?)). A two block print I've rolled out today on dreamy Mitsumata paper. Very happy with how it came out. I was wanting to do a goat-based print for a while and naturally was inspired by the absolute star of The Witch.

Rolled out a new print today which should be dry and ready for the @studiogreenly Great Leeds Print Fair (Sat) and Saltaire Makers Fair (Sun and Mon) @saltaireinspired next weekend. It was inspired by medieval designs I've spotted while out lingering around old churches- in particular a circle of nonspecific beasties in a wonky circular form which was carved into the south door arch of the amazing Kilpeck church in Herefordshire. I've gone with a griffon-esque creature. It's printed onto very nice cream Hahnemuhle paper with deckled edges. Happy with it!

New Zealand artist Gareth, aka Spindle Printer, offers a range of bold and unique prints that celebrate his love of history, nature, and storytelling. With a playful twist and an off-beat imagination, he likes to create prints that are engaging and capture people's attention with intriguing details. He mainly produces linocuts but also offers a series of small scale wood engravings too with a blend of single and multilayered pieces.
His work captures a broad mix of subjects, from wildlife to ancient sites, vintage TVs to sea creatures. He uses only the best materials available including quality inks and fine handmade papers which he prints onto by hand. He works from his home studio in Bradford, alongside his wily whippet Lola and loves chatting about printmaking adventures with people at events. Gareth also recently had a solo exhibition at @craftleeds !

Peeling back the paper and taking a sneak peek at the finished print is especially good fun when you've got more than one layer. Seeing the colours work together and the effects you get when the colours overlay each other is super satisfying! (When they are behaving and line up properly 🤪) .

Welcome to the world Medusa. I had been flinging ideas for a Medusa print around in my head for a wee while and am very happy with how this came out. The intertwining snakesies were good fun to draw out and the colours came out as planned - 🎉. Two blocks went into the making of this and somewhere in the region of 45-50 hrs of carving. It was super absorbing and relaxing to put together, although my knuckles and finger tendons need a solid four year holiday after that. Hope ya like!🐍

It is a pleasure sharing these beautiful prints with our visitors. Old myths and legends are revisited, from familiar tales to more obscure stories. Open to interpretation over time, they remind us of our shared humanity.
Spend a little time with them and you may find the world slows down for a moment.

The outcome of yesterday's carving session was this couple of dastardly kings of old in the middle of a regal punch-up. It is called In Only Books Should Kings Reside.
It was very very fiddly, especially those skellie teeth. Happy with it!
