Documentary and series storytelling keeps getting more complex as audiences demand more.
More timelines. More interconnected stories. More pressure to keep up engagement while unpacking information that can easily become overwhelming.
That’s why Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty remains a model as we approach every new documentary.
We worked with Campfire Studios on the main title and full graphics package for the HBO Max series at a time when multiple versions of this story were being released.
What stood out about the HBO approach was the focus on the larger ecosystem surrounding the crimes. It was more than the events themselves focusing on the family history, influence, corruption, and relationships underneath it all.
That kind of storytelling needed more than good visuals, it needed structure.
The title sequence became the foundation for how the entire series communicated information back to the viewer. Maps, family trees, timelines, photo treatments, and on-screen text were all built from the same visual logic so the story could stay cohesive even as it became more layered.
That’s even more important now than it was then.
Audiences are better at spotting when complexity is being masked with style alone. The projects that hold up are the ones where the system is built early and carries all the way through.
This was one of those projects.

Inside the CIA: Secrets & Spies for @natgeo
Real missions. Real locations.
We built the system that let you follow both.
Maps tracking agent movement, target locations, and key destinations.
Lower thirds, timelines, and archival treatments to keep everything grounded.
All built on the same structure so viewers stayed locked-in as the stories changed.
When that’s working, you don’t notice the graphics.
You just understand what’s happening.

Seasonal launches move fast.
For @califiafarms we built a set of short-form product spots across flavors, designed to stay consistent across social and broadcast while still letting each product stand on its own.
Each bottle, pour, and glass was built in CG from client footage, then carried through a shared motion system to keep everything aligned.
This is the kind of detail that doesn’t always stand out, but you feel it when it’s right.

With Artemis II bringing space back into the conversation, it felt like a good time to revisit The Space Race on National Geographic.
We worked with Kennedy/Marshall on the main title and the graphics system for the film.
The story already carries a lot of weight. Our job was to help frame it without getting in the way.
A big part of the challenge was tone. How do you represent the history behind these astronauts without pushing it too far in one direction or making it feel heavy handed.
We focused on building a visual language that connects moments across time. Early American history, the space program, and the people at the center of it.
Nothing too literal or overexplained.
The system carried across the entire film so it stayed consistent no matter where the story went.
Not the space race most people are thinking about right now.

An awards package isn't just a look, it's a language.
Every element has to speak the same dialect: the opener, the lower thirds, the bumps, the transitions, the award moments, and more.
Our team developed a comprehensive motion identity system that unified the show across every moment. From modular graphic builds to flexible animation frameworks, we crafted a system of motion assets specially built to showcase the best in kids and family television while fitting seamlessly inside the broader NATAS family of celebrations.
Building coherent motion systems for live events is one of the things we do best at Spillt. If you're developing a show package, awards broadcast, or live event identity, let's collaborate.

Are you a brand or network searching for reach beyond a one-off final deliverable?
Check out our three-play College Football touchdown! 🏈
When @espn approached us about supporting the SEC on ABC and the College Football Championship, they wanted a partner who understood that one great promo does not win the game. Marketing, like football, is built on success play after play.
We thrive on delivering beautiful prototype spots and comprehensive toolkits that allow ESPN to amplify its campaign all the way to the College Football Championship.
And, what began as two unique anthem stingers had a halftime adjustment: Add a matchup menu kit that teased the coverage of the juiciest games week to week.
Three flexible systems for ESPN to extend their promotion all season long!
Big thanks to the ESPN CCU Team for putting us in the lineup!
If you need more than a one-play “Hail Mary,” let us give your team a whole toolkit playbook.

What does it take for 16.2 MM subscribers and 1.8MM views of an online class developed by a brand? @complexlymedia has it nailed!
It takes YouTube and knowing your audience.
YouTube is arguably one of the best educational platforms in the age of streaming. Free or paid content abounds, and access to it is more available than at any time in previous history. This creates a need for companies, classes, and content to stand out visually in their development to Capture the click of potential viewers.
@megan10yes reached out to collaborate on Complexly's next idea for a series on Art History. Years of experience in character animation, broadcast graphics, and documentary titles made Spillt the perfect partner to bring 22 episodes to life.
Tying the past to the future is @thecrashcourse Art History's main message – and behind the scenes at Spillt it was the driving force in our partnership with Complexly, honoring the previous incarnation of their brand in motion but turbocharging it for the future at the same time.
