🗺️ SPILLLL VOL. 4 IS HERE 🗺️
🍚 Continuing our zine series on food and personal experiences as queer ESEA (East / South East Asian) female immigrants, SPILLLL VOL. 4 talks about <Migrating with food>.
The zine starts from a trip to Isle of Skye, where we shared local ingredients and home recipes. We expand the conversation to our personal stories on food and migration, showing where we left a piece of ourselves around the globe.
🥢 Often, women’s cooking and chitchat are slighted as being ‘domestic’ and insignificant. Asian cooking can be labeled as ‘exotic’, ‘stinky’, or ‘foreign’, and may be baits for racism. SPILLLL celebrates both, searing up saucy recipes and fiery political discussions.

Our conversation with @hellotraceywaller , Head of MA Visual Communication at @rcavisualcomm
is now on the RCA website!✨
We met up at the @thefeministlibrary , when the four of us were still all in the UK. We shared important thoughts around conversational practices, how our immigrant experiences inspire our practice, and how we aim to form a liquid, loose solidarity in the transnational ESEA community.
A huge thank you to @hellotraceywaller for a valuable and wholehearted conversation that helped us to verbalise SPILLLL’s values and aspirations!
We ( @spillll.studio ) made hundreds of people sniff stinky East and Southeast Asian sauces at the Southbank centre!!!! 🤧
This February, we were given an opportunity to turn the whole Clore ballroom of the Southbank centre into a safe space to explore these ‘stinky’ sauces we’ve been scared of, ashamed of, and in love with.
Visitors could taste 6 different unlabelled sauces (with allergens ofc) and make a zine out of their sensory observations.
Big thank you to @daddy_maki_ , @deejaynye from @halfeastrecords , and our volunteers (@zozomoloko@artynicharee@hika_at_wedo@k.knotzz ) for being part of our team and making the evening so smoooooth.
And also a big shout out to the amazing creative encounters team, for the opportunity and the support! 🔥
SPILLLL has more fun things coming… 🕺🏻

🎉Report Talk Event: ‘Dream Feminism Zine Project’ – Zine Culture and Feminism / Women’s Action Network Japan The ‘Dream Feminism Zine Project’ by WAN has helped to fund SPILLLL Zine Vol.3 & Vol.4, as well as those of three other feminist organisations with ties to Japan. Now that our zines are published, WAN invited us to an online talk event for reflection and celebration, where SPILLLL got a chance to speak to around 100 participants about our zine. We were so touched to receive warm words from Dr. Chizuko Ueno and other directors of WAN, as well as jurors of this funding, and also to know that there were many ESEA creatives in our generation that share our passion to continue speaking about feminist solidarity through zines! 🔥
