since this song has been out for a while, i thought i’d share the inspiration behind the lyrics :)
i wrote this song when i just graduated college and was transitioning between letting go of my adolescence and growing into adulthood.
watching all of my friends grow up and accomplish milestones felt bittersweet because while i was happy for them, i was sad our lives were diverging from each other.
now that a year or so has passed and i’m more acclimated to adult life, i realized all of the amazing things that have happened to me, like meeting my bf, making new friends and becoming a journalist, couldn’t have happened without change. i look at my adolescence with appreciation rather than sadness and feel grateful to still have strong connections with my hometown besties.
with love, it was definitely the right thing to say goodbye 🫶🏼
