Imagine having thoughts, feelings, opinions - and no way to express them.
Now imagine someone finally handing you a way to communicate… and then then outside agencies try to take it away.
That’s the reality for thousands of nonspeaking individuals with autism and apraxia right now. On this World Autism Day, we’re asking you to learn, share, and stand with us. Every person deserves the right to communicate how THEY choose.

Day 30: As we come to the end of 30 days dedicated to spreading awareness about how spelling is important for non-speakers with autism, I wanted to take a moment to encourage all of the families and autism therapists and professionals who have been listening to nonspeakers and their families talk about how spelling has changed their lives, and are finally deciding to try spelling and see how it might help their autistic nonspeakers or their clients.
I know trying something new can be nerve-wrecking so I wanted to help you feel welcome into the spellers community. In the common section of this video, you will find advice and stories from nonspeakers and their families, and also from therapists who have decided to use spelling to help their clients. I hope this helps you feel more secure in your decision to try spelling and I wish you the very best in your spelling journey.
For more information on spelling, please visit Communication4all.org and Spellersfreedomfoundation.com, and follow @communication4allorg and @spellersfreedom
And don’t hesitate to message me and I’ll send you a detailed list of resources from both these organizations that will help you get started.

😵💫 “I can’t keep up! What’s going on with the Communication Bill of Rights in New York? Why does it need to pass in the Assembly again this year? What’s the difference between the Assembly and Senate bills?”
📢 Long story short, there’s another vote for the Communication Bill of Rights (A7363C) in the NY State Assembly this Wednesday, April 29th. We need YOUR help to pass it again!
1️⃣ Go to /april-29-communication-rights-action (link in bio as always)
2️⃣ There, you’ll find instructions on how to contact all NY State Assemblymembers who are not yet co-sponsoring A7363C. We are asking them to co-sponsor it and vote YES on Wednesday 4/29.
3️⃣ If you’re a typer who lives within driving distance of Albany, we’d love to see you there at 10am this Wednesday! Email [email protected] if you can join us.
🎯 Elizabeth says, “NO STATE AGENCY CAN CATEGORICALLY DENY AN ACCOMMODATION, AND WE DEMAND OUR AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT RIGHTS.” Now is the time for action!
Video Description: Assemblyman Santabarbara addresses the Assembly floor as “Urgent Action for Communication Bill of Rights” is overlaid. Stickers for NY and government houses are shown, along with a bill being signed with text “It’s a law.” Santabarbara is overlaid with “The New York State Assembly Communication Bill of Rights, A7363C,” followed by him, Elizabeth, and many other advocates in Albany, followed by “New York Assembly Vote Wednesday April 29th.” Senator Fahy frowns while “SHAME ON SENATOR PAT FAHY: She was influenced by special interests and added ableist language and then gutted the bill, S7792C” is overlaid. A7363C is followed by a screen recording of “SpellersFreedomFoundation.org,” followed by text “Co-Sponsor Vote YES Wednesday April 29th.” Elizabeth types as “No state agency can categorically deny an accommodation, and we demand our American with Disabilities Act rights. -Elizabeth Bonker Director of Communication 4 ALL” is overlaid. Elizabeth and Ginnie hug as “Please contact NY Assemblymembers NOW” is overlaid.

DAY 26: NY ASSEMBLY — PASS A7363C ON 4/29!
New York’s Assembly said YES unanimously. Now let’s make history — again.
🇺🇸 Before S7792 existed in the Senate, the New York’s Communication Bill of Rights started as Assembly Bill A7363C.
🇺🇸 This bill would legally protect every person with a disability’s right to use their own communication method.
🇺🇸 Sponsored by Assemblyman Santabarbara, this bill already passed the Assembly unanimously in 2025. Every seat. Both sides of the aisle.
🇺🇸 It’s going up for a vote again this week - and on April 29th, advocates, nonspeakers, and families from across the state will be in Albany for Legislative Disability Advocacy Day to celebrate its historic passage once more.
🇺🇸 We need everyone to reach out to the House Speaker - Carl Heastie - TODAY and TOMORROW (518)455-3791 and thank him for his support and that we look forward to the bill passing on 4/29.
🇺🇸 If you’re a typer or speller and you can be in Albany on Wednesday 4/29 please come to the Capitol.
🇺🇸 This is not a partisan issue. This is a human rights issue. And the Assembly already proved it.
Now we need to make the call - and make the numbers even stronger this time.
Sample CTA SCRIPTS:
Heastie Script: Contact Speaker Heastie to ask that he ensures this bill is voted on again: “Hi, I’m calling about A7363C, the communication bill of rights for people with disabilities, sponsored by Assemblyman Santabarbara. This bill passed the Assembly unanimously in 2025. We thank you for your support on this issue and look forward to celebrating the bill’s passage again on 4/29 during the Assembly’s Legislative Disability Advocacy Day. Non-speakers, families, and advocates are coming from across the state to celebrate the historic passage again! Thank you!” (Tell your personal story if you like.)

One champion. One betrayal.
NY Assemblyman Santabarbara passed the Communication Bill of Rights (A7363C) unanimously in 2025. He’s a father of a son with autism - and he gets it. He showed up for nonspeakers.
Senator Fahy was influenced by trade interests and subsequently gutted the bill - inserting the words “validated” and “autonomous” into the language. Two words that sound neutral, two words that effectively exclude every nonspeaker who uses typing or spelling to communicate.
Have our children’s futures been bought and sold?
Nonspeakers deserve better. They deserve equal rights. We must demand better.
👉 Visit our website () to learn how you can take action! You don’t have to live in New York to make a difference.

✊ New York State Assembly: Pass the Communication Bill of Rights, again!
⭐️ Elizabeth affirms:
THE NY COMMUNICATION BILL OF RIGHTS IS CRITICAL FOR NONSPEAKERS TO BE HEARD.
THE BILL GIVES US A VOICE WITHOUT MANDATES AND REQUIRES NO FUNDING.
📃 New York’s Communication Bill of Rights, Assembly Bill A7363C, would legally protect every person with a disability’s right to use their own communication method. This is “My Voice, My Choice” in the form of a bill!
⏱️ It passed the Assembly last June with bipartisan support. Both sides of the aisle said YES.
⚖️ Without this bill, typers and text-based communicators can be denied their primary most effective method of AAC. This is not a partisan issue. This is a human rights issue.
🔠 We already proved what’s possible when we are given access. Now we need New York to protect that access by law. Albany is listening - but only if we get loud.
1️⃣ Contact House Speaker Carl Heastie to thank him for his support:
📧[email protected]
📞518-455-3791
2️⃣ Contact all non-sponsors of A7363C to ask them to co-sponsor it BEFORE this Wednesday 4/29!
🔗Details at: linktr.ee/communication4allorg (link in bio!)
3️⃣ CALLING ALL TYPERS to Albany!
📧 Email [email protected] if you can come to Albany this Wednesday 4/29 to help us advocate for the Communication Bill of Rights.
