We’re thrilled to welcome the Ensemble Theatre in Houston, Texas to Spektrix!
Influenced by the African American Theatre Movement of the 1960s and 70s, and frustrated by the lack of opportunities for Black actors, George Hawkins established his own company in Houston in 1976, then known as the Black Ensemble Company. Hawkins’ goal was to create a theater that would provide diverse roles for Black artists.
Today the Ensemble Theatre continues to expand and create innovative programs to bring African American theatre to a wide range of audiences.

Centred around the theme "Building Bridges: Art, Empathy, Action", a panel of incredible business leaders and artists led a thoughtful conversation on current issues in the arts, philanthropy, and economic development in Atlanta.
Included on the panel was LaTeshia Ellerson, Theatre Communications Group’s Co-Executive Director of National Engagement, who spoke about striving to move from transactional to transformational relationships in arts funding - which we couldn't agree with more. We look forward to continuing these conversations at the TCG conference next month!

We’re heading home feeling extra inspired by the work happening across the industry and excited for what’s ahead.
