Is the G87 M2 more “M3” than the G80? ⬇️
With cars getting progressively larger and heavier, the new M2 seems to be the spiritual successor to the M3’s of the 90’s and 2000’s. The same could be said for the F87 M2. What started as a ~101 inch wheel base platform in the 90’s has evolved into a car that is almost a whole foot longer and 1,000 lbs heavier, and while the G87 is far from light, it does go back to the roots of having a small and nimble wheel-base, and not to mention; being a coupe.
BMW’s 2015 separation of sedans becoming the M3 and the coupes receiving the M4 name had many fans upset, but one new M platform released alongside them continued to keep the size, feel, and looks that we all adored on the M3, which was the M2. This new M model never exceeded the length nor wheelbase of the E92 M3, even to this day with the G87 M2, making it the most akin to the generation of M3’s we know and love.
