Some discussion over the last few days reminded me of one of my favorite stages from last years S FL section match. Combining max effort on the front of movements while bringing the entry in under control has the been key for me to reduce shot to shot time and getting points.
LEVEL-UP
Level-Up is class intended to take shooters from a variety of levels and teach you how to level-up your game. This is class about how to train, and how to discover what truly works the best for you as the individual. We’ll do a deep dive on training and exploring speed & accuracy, gun handling, target transitions and movement, and well as finding consistent high level execution using stages. Also included for each student is a post-class video breakdown of footage from the class which will give you lots of additional homework. Link in bio!
2 Big Take aways from this stage.
1. Always fun to prove that stage planning do in fact be mattering sometimes 🤣
2. My genuine perception on the last steel was a terrible transition that had the gun landing way off target, and having to wait about three and half business days for the dot to settle in the middle. But watching the footage I wouldn’t have even picked that out as a slow transition. This is why you CANNOT allow your perception of what is fast vs. slow to control your shooting, it must be vision. Would have been extremely easy to feel behind, throw a hoper at the steel, and be way deeper in the hole waiting to see if I hit it before making it up.
Too often the work we do in training is EASIER than the event we are training for, whether that’s a match, self defense etc. We should be pushing ourselves beyond what is reasonable in training, building a surplus of skill, so that on the day the real challenge appears simple and easy.
Next Level Cold start drill. One of personal favorite training setup formats brought to class. This one will give you a lot to think about and highlight deficiencies very quickly.
