🌊🐠 Today we visited one of our Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), and we were amazed by the incredible marine life gathering around it: schools of fish, colorful species, pelagic visitors, and many surprises from the ocean like turtles and sharks.
Our FADs are designed to work hand in hand with nature, creating floating structures that serve as natural meeting points for marine species. They become living spaces where the ocean reveals its beauty, rhythm, and mystery.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
About 8 nautical miles offshore, the ocean looks like a vast blue desert—until you reach a buoy with a single palm frond. Around it, life concentrates. Baitfish—rainbow runners, pilot fish, small jacks, bonito, mahi-mahi, tripletail—circle in dense schools, and predators quickly follow: silky sharks, larger bonita and dolphins whose clicks and whistles carry through the water.
These buoys are Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), placed in late spring by local fishermen. Over weeks, they transform from simple floats into nurseries, gathering juvenile fish that both shelter and feed larger predators. In just 5 nautical miles, we found four of these floating ecosystems, each one turning empty sea into an oasis of activity.
Last week, we used the FADs as snorkeling beacons to show kids this hidden world. For more than two hours, they swam among schools of baitfish, turtles gliding through the currents, and curious juvenile sharks patrolling the edges. These man-made devices, unintended as they may be, reveal the resilience of pelagic life and the surprising ways the ocean creates opportunity from the simplest structures.
