Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to making the International Women’s Exhibit such an inspiring success, once again! It was a pleasure to explore all the creative posters and to learn about remarkable women in 14 languages during the reception on March 2, 2026!
A big shout out goes to the Outreach Committee with Jacob Brown and Yangtian Luo as co-chairs and members Ana Thome-Williams, Rana Raddawi, Julia Oliver Rajan, and Peter Mwangi for all they did to organize the event. Thank you also to Chris Davidson and Brendan Sander for all their help in the library and to Ingrid Zeller, current chair of the CLI for her help and support. Thank you also to the Language Resource Center for their contributions and support of the reception!
Thank you to all the talented and globally oriented students who participated and the dedicated professors who encouraged them to participate, who mentored them, and who integrated the project in their courses. Finally, thank you to all of you who came to support the event! What a wonderful turn-out!

Join us & Northwestern University’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese for a conversation and writing workshop with Mexico-based award winning author, Gabriela Damián Miravete ✍️
This Spanish-language event will focus on the author’s interest in science-fiction, speculative literature, & world-building. Connections will be made between Latinx writers of the past and present through recurrent topics like magic, fantasy and time travel in the Boom literature of the 1960s and the work of contemporary writers like Damián.
The first half of the session will be a discussion of two of Damián’s short stories “Espanto del mundo nuevo” and “El taller de enmiendas y reparaciones” moderated by Assistant Professor of Mexican and Latin American Literature, Alfonso Fierro.
The conversation will be followed by a creative writing exercise in collective world-building introducing participants to some of the methods and themes in the author’s work through a hands-on activity 📝
