Nuclear power in space is no longer theoretical — it’s national policy.
At the 41st Space Symposium, the White House unveiled the National Initiative for American Space Nuclear Power, directing NASA, DOD and DOE to co-develop fission reactors for orbit by 2028.
The U.S. has spent over $20 billion on space nuclear programs across decades and flown exactly one reactor. This initiative is designed to change that — fast — with private partnerships, interagency coordination and a clear timeline.
The goals are ambitious: sustained electricity, heating and propulsion for a permanent presence on the Moon, Mars and beyond.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 National Space Sustainability Competition.
Students in grades 6–8 were challenged to develop innovative solutions for long-term space sustainability beyond Earth. After review by a panel of industry professionals, 3 teams stood out:
1st — Team PVNet 6, Rolling Hills Estates, CA
2nd — Team SpaceLeaf, Tracy, CA
3rd — Team MSI Innovators, Brooklyn, NY
Congratulations to all three teams. Winning students will receive scholarships to further their education, sponsored by @voyagertech_
The winners were announced during the premiere of our National Space Day educational video, hosted by science communicator @ambre_rosario
A new economy is being built... on the Moon.
At the 41st Space Symposium, NASA officials, commercial partners and scientists laid out the case: with new Artemis missions on the horizon, growing commercial interest in lunar mining and resource utilization, and NASA actively seeking partners for communications, power and heavy-lift landers, the Moon is no longer a science destination — it’s an economic frontier.
The infrastructure decisions being made right now will shape who leads the cislunar economy for decades to come.

THE NEXT GENERATION SPACE SUIT!
The new Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit (AxEMU) spacesuit will provide astronauts advanced capabilities for space exploration while providing NASA with commercially developed human systems needed to access, live and work on and around the Moon. The advanced spacesuits ensure astronauts are equipped with high-performing, robust equipment and are designed to accommodate a wide range of crew members.
Building off NASA’s Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit (xEMU) spacesuit design, the Axiom Space spacesuits are created to provide increased flexibility, greater protection to withstand the harsh environment, and specialized tools to accomplish exploration needs and expand scientific opportunities. Using innovative technologies and a flexible design, these spacesuits will enable more exploration of the lunar surface than ever before.
The development of these next-generation spacesuits by Axiom Space is a significant milestone in furthering American leadership in space exploration, and enabling a deeper understanding of the Moon, the solar system, and beyond.👨🚀👩🚀🚀🌚
