WEED WATCH: #surffishing Melbourne Beach @ low tide
Wednesday, 5/6/2026, 5:30pm
Pretty water, but pretty weedy. Definitely fishable, far from optimal. The weeds were present (and thicker) at high tide, but was hoping to see a more significant reduction at peak low. Tomorrow brings a S/SW wind at mild speeds — hopefully that will be enough to clear the surf of sargassum seaweed. Friday and Saturday both look to present fish-friendly conditions in the AM. #surffishingflorida #floridafishing #seaweed #sargassum
Don't like the rules? Here's your chance to help craft the new ones! FWC is considering a new regional management approach for the spotted seatrout fishery, similar to the current frameworks for redfish and snook. Potential changes under consideration include establishing smaller seatrout management regions with regulations based on evaluations of multiple management metrics specific to each region. YOUR INPUT IS NEEDED! Each public workshop runs from 6pm - 8pm. #seatrout #conservation #indianriverlagoon #fisherymanagement @fwc_commish
