Yesterday we said goodbye to our very own Spaceport Cornwall education superstar, Fritha Durham. With funding challenges, we’re pausing the programme for now, but today is about celebrating an incredible educator. Fritha, you always said education isn’t just what you do, it’s who you are, and that shows in the tens of thousands of students you’ve inspired. From assemblies and rocket tours to workshops, work experience and exchanges, thank you. For turning “recycling” into rockets and rovers, thank you. For your energy and endless enthusiasm toward watching the latest launch, science mission, seeing the aurora borealis etc, thank you. Your impact on Cornwall will last for generations! (And yes… we’re watching Artemis II… 🚀)

The @t.e.c.girls Reach for the Sky Festival is returning to Cornwall Airport Newquay on 20 & 21 June 2026.✈️ Set at the home of @spacecornwall , this unique event brings together aviation, aerospace and engineering in one inspiring space. Back for another year (and now across two days!), the festival is all about encouraging the next generation to explore careers in these industries. Expect a full day of hands-on activities, interactive stands, workshops and the chance to get up close to real aircraft on the runway. You’ll also be able to meet the people behind the scenes, including engineers, pilots and apprentices, and discover what a career in the industry could look like. An alternative 12 days of Christmas from Fritha, our Education & Outreach Coordinator… As we wrap up an incredible year at Spaceport Cornwall, we’ve been reflecting on just how much has taken off in 2025 ✨ 12 inspiring school visits - well not 12 more like 40 in school visits and even more visiting our facility 🧑‍🚀 11 wide-eyed future space explorers (per session… at least!) 🔬 10, 000 curious questions that stopped us in our tracks 🛰 9 conversations about Cornwall’s place in the space economy just in one afternoon of work experience… that’ll be 70 work experience students 🌍 8 moments of awe at Earth from above - whilst hosting our T Level students from Truro College 🪨 7 critical minerals sparking big ideas… thanks to Cornish Metals for your time. ✈️ 6 supportive partners working behind the scenes plus quite a few more you all know who you are 😊 From Tech Girls to The Jon Egging Trust, Tech Cornwall, GEL Limited… 🚌 5 volunteer parent drivers (transport heroes!) and many more volunteers that have supported us during events 📚 4-year groups discovering space careers in one school…We have worked with students in reception classes, secondary students, colleges, universities and home educational groups 🧠 3 lightbulb moments we’ll never forget - so many moments that have filled us with joy 🤝 2 incredible partners at Cornwall Airport Newquay plus Avanti, HaLo, Open Skies Network, Cornwall Space Cluster and Primary Engineers for your time, energy and conversations. 🌟 And 1 shared mission: inspiring the next generation of the space industry A huge thanks to Ross Hulbert, who should be the angel on the tree for putting up with me all year, and Cornwall Council for funding my role.. From classrooms to launchpads, from big questions to even bigger dreams - thank you to every school, student, teacher, parent, and partner who have been part of our journey been this year. 🚀 Work is officially underway on a groundbreaking project that strengthens Cornwall’s position as a leader in next-gen aviation and autonomous flight. We’re teaming up with @cornwall_airport and WholeShip’s @nationaldronehub with support from @cornwallspace to create one-of-a-kind testing environment for uncrewed aerial system testing. This is a major milestone for the UK and Europe’s future flight ambitions. INVICTUS will deliver a hypersonic flight test capability unlike anything currently available in Europe.
